There's different between "unattainable" and "Never being attained" The later means that the position has never been attained but it could be attained at any given time. Take your time and understand my English.

@ realokopi alot of them get confused because of the major or lieutenant on front of the general rank. A general is higher than a major general and lieutenant general. Brigadier general, major general, lieutenant general, General , field marshal . That's the rank. Field marshal is unattainable and a ceremonial rank which automatically belongs to the president (GCFR). Pls be educated.

Field Marshall so far just like the "admiral of the fleet" and the "Marshall of the Airforce" in the Navy and Airforce respectively are unattainable ranks in the Nigerian military.... there is no record of any officer of such rank in the history of the Nigerian military.
but I've seen officers of such rank in foreign militaries tho!

Major General is the highest rank a career army officer can attain.

Lt Gen is usually reserved for appointments eg COAS or CDS.

The Nigerian Army has had very few rank of Generals and they where mostly Head of States.

It's from President Yaradua that started dishing out rank of Generals.
