The councillor representing ward one in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, Israel Inyanabor, was kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday.

He was abducted early in the morning at Ewatto-Ubiaja-Okhuesan Road, near Ena River, where a teacher, Mr Abiola, and his wife (who are yet to be released) were seized by gunmen.

The councillor was said to be driving along the road when the armed men emerged from a nearby bush and opened fire on his car, which forced him to stop.

The gunmen were said to have seized the victim and took him into the forest. It was not clear if the hoodlums have contacted the family.

A source in the council lamented that there had been several kidnappings and other criminal activities around the Ena River.

He said, “We are appealing to the state government and the police for the deployment of operatives in the area.

Meanwhile, the pregnant woman, Mrs Uju Okwudili, who was kidnapped on Monday in Irhiri, Benin, was on Wednesday by his abductors.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, promised to call back but did not as of press time.
