for now let's go into greetings in Benin

Apart from the customary family greetings in Benin we also have greetings that tell hour of the day, occasion, work activities etc for example :

Obowie ____ good morning, happy morning
( obo = happy , owie = morning ) but note that the general word for happy is oghogho but in this case , the obo comes in to represent the action been done at the said time. the original word for obo is "obee" meaning "having"( both e sounds air..) hence the last O ( ob"o) is added to indicate a proper usage for morning ( called owie in Benin ).

Obavan _____ good afternoon ( oba = happy ,
avan = noon ) the "a" in this oba is added to be able to sound well with noon ( which is called avan in Benin) because " ob" can't stand alone

Obota______good evening ( I think I dont have to explain this )

Okhiowie _____ good night or till morning ( okhie = till, owie = morning )

Obevbaru_____ well done

erhegue ____ you will not be killed by another ( this is a greeting done only by females of Benin after eating, actually the word originated from Erhe = another + ghi = will + gbue = kill you .)

Kada _____ i respect you ( this greeting is done only by males of benin after eating, the word was coined out of Ika= I first + da= respect etc +nuen= you)

obokhian _____ welcome

Iyare ______safe return

okhiewere ______ safe journey

the usual family greeting in Benin serve only the purpose of identifying the family you belong to.

I greet Lagite as my morning greeting because am a descendant of the enogie of ute in orhionmwon. Lagite was coin out of Ona ogiu te ( meaning this is of the enogie of ute )

Imose!

I'm Yorùbá, but I love Edo. Sometimes I feel I'm Edo. It's the major reason I bought Imose phone.

I'd like to speak the Edo language.

I speak bini in d open with non bini, wen i speak dey say ehnn what did u say then i interprete

Some of them gradually begin to grap d words,

Ama ewomwen, tor weii

Your last statement is a proverb.

I think it should be " Ama zemwomwa ta wii"
