The Federal Ministry of Transport has responded to a Freedom of Information, FOI request by former 2nd Vice-President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Monday Ubani and Lagos-based lawyer, John Nwokwu for detailed information of the $1.96billion Kano-Niger Republic rail project. source: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/12/transport-ministry-complies-with-foi-request-on-1-96bn-rail-project/ 2 Likes 2 Shares

It also confirmed that only 20km of the track length is within Niger Republic while 358km is within Nigeria. The FOI release should have clarified who is paying for the 20km of tracks in Niger Republic. In September they said it was Niger Republic. Right now it looks like Nigeria is paying. Other economic benefits according to the Ministry include, saving from greenhouse gases reduction, saving in road maintenance and promotion of Intra Africa Trade. They should have quantified how much the country would be making on trade. How much revenue do they expect to net from cargo and passenger? That's useful information. 13 Likes 1 Share

In what appears to be a clear departure from government agencies’ usual dismissal of FOI request, the Ministry last week responded to the demand and gave more details of the project. The government is too cavalier about break the law. The ministry probably published the details because it's not a chinese funded project that almost requires occult secrecy. 5 Likes |

With the way everything goes to Niger. Hope someone is not from Niger? Same as Abacha's family , they ignored kano and invested heavily in Niger Republic... The Rich Northerners do not believe in the North, aside the big farms most of their investment are not in the North. 3 Likes |

There is no visible difference between Northern Nigeria and Niger. Some Nigeria politicians have roots from Niger. So, whatever they are doing is not strange. Give Niger electricity, build railways into Niger and the normal open borders of the North are not unusual things. 4 Likes |

Szkpytqgdcvx925: Good to you,not to Nigerians. How can Nigeria be constructing a Rail-line to other Country while even the Nigeria Federation is yet to fully benefits from this jamboree. What does Niger,Chad,Mali export other than Boko-haram and all these countries are not beneficial to our country. That is why all those routes are never closed borders- the North never closed borders-for illegality and shortchanged, just to trade Nigeria resources away.Soon you will be importing fuel from Niger Republic.Terribly bad! |
