LAGOS- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere and the National Consultative Front (NCF) on Monday said nothing positive will come out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s joint session with the National Assembly on Thursday.

The federal lawmakers are poised for a showdown with the President, who is expected to brief them on efforts by his government to address the sundry security challenges besetting the country.

The lawmakers are miffed over the reluctance of the President to sack the Service Chiefs despite several resolutions by both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Speaking in a chat with INDEPENDENT, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary said President Buhari will only deliver a boring speech to the lawmakers and leave without entertaining questions on his refusal to sack the service chiefs.

“There is nothing that is going to come out of the meeting. He will deliver a boring speech as usual. The service chiefs should go, they have no business doing in that place. They have tried their best and they have failed woefully. They should go”.

On what the National Assembly should do if the President ignores their directives, Odumakin said unlike before, the lawmakers should keep pushing until their demands are met.

“The national assembly should continue pushing until the president sacks the service chiefs because they have outlived their usefulness. They are not useful anymore. The president is only keeping them in power for personal gains.”

On his part, Dr Tanko Yunusa, a former presidential candidate and National Consultative Front (NCF)’s Head of Public Affairs Bureau, also said the President will only read a speech and leave without addressing serious issues on the worsening security crisis in the country and the removal of the service chiefs.

“For a president that has not been visible to the people for a very long time, I don’t see any fundamental thing happening when he appears at the National Assembly. He is just coming there to read a prepared speech and justify why he has refused to sack the Service Chiefs.

“But the fact still remains that it is time for the National Assembly to show that they have the support of the people. They should demand that the president do the needful as regards the service chiefs. Otherwise, they would have contravened the position of the constitution were the paramount needs of the people, which is the security of lives and people.”

Barrister Taofik Gani, the PDP Lagos state chapter Publicity Secretary also agreed that nothing will come out of the meeting as the President did not agree to address the federal lawmakers on his volition but was compelled to do so.

He said: “Unfortunately, the President’s decision to appear before the National Assembly is a belated response to the people’s cry. It has even confirmed the rumour of a coup attempt by some persons which was exposed by the Chief of Army Staff, General Buratai.

“There is no reason why Buratai should raise the alarm if there is no plan to do such. The president is not coming to address the national assembly because of Nigerians, it is because he is now jittery that things have really gone from bad to worse.

“So, there is nothing that is going to come out of the meeting with the lawmakers because the president has no genuine motive to address Nigerians. He wouldn’t have done so if he wasn’t compelled by the National Assembly,” he said.

Waste of time. what is he going to tell Nigerians that we haven't heard before. will his prepared speech make any difference. I'll rather be watching porn than to waste my time watching the disastrous Buhari addressing Nigerians

grin

E pain them.

At first they claimed he wouldn't honour the invitation. Much to their chagrin he did the opposite.

How else would they appeal to their base if they don't poopoo on his visit to the national assembly?

Sore losers.

These Atiku slaves are funny.

They said that Buhari is not a responsive leader because he doesn't address the people, now that he has agreed to address them through their reps in the national assembly, they are saying it wouldn't change anything. If he changes something, they will say it is too late. They just hate the man because they haven't seen a president so loved despite their internet warfare and endSars sponsorship.
