Glo sells 1.9GB for ₦1,000. That is about ₦490 for 1GB.

This price has been since 2019. So, no crash at all this year.

it is not how many but how long. The way network providers suck data is alarming. Nowadays 500mb is like last year 100mb
Actually, not really true. These are the factors that contribute to it. Advancement in mobile technology such a faster data ntw, higher quality phones, bigger data files and more video content.

Take for instance, 1g of data cannot be used in Facebook for 24hrs in a stretch. Why? Higher picture qualities taken by mobile phones and uploaded on Facebook, more videos on Facebook (some of high quality), Facebook apk size (and its attendant consumption of memory due to caching etc.)

Then YouTube videos (many don't know how to reduce the quality of YouTube video while watching), Instagram (full of pictures and videos, all high quality meaning more data consumption)

These are the reasons 1g of data cannot so much today compared to 5 years ago.

As at last week... Operators haven't put the directive into motion...

Better to take this gist with a pinch of salt

I don't know about other networks but there has been rates review on Airtel.

The offer for 5k now is 20GB as against the previous 15GB.

They should leave data cost alone and reduce the price of cement so I can complete my building quick enough..

N4,500 a bag of cement & N9,500 a bag of POP cement is not sustainable ooo

Especially Airtel data. You will do 1gb data, and within a few hours, you will receive message that you have 500mb left. Then, you will get another message that you have 200mb left.

Re: FG Crashes Data Price By 50 Percent by VonSmallhausen: 10:18am On Dec 10, 2020
This would be nice. However, it will be interesting to see how they would enforce implementation.
The operators pay through their noses fueling generators to power their base stations, and also pay in forex for virtually all spare parts.
How then would FG just wake up and fix prices for them?

That would be no different from waking up and fixing the price for hair cuts!!!

DontBullshitMe:
Price control is bad for capitalism.

Who is advising this Government?
Not capitalism per se but market economy.
But Nigeria has never practiced true market economy.
The only place where we even tried doing so was in the telecommunications sector until this government came with it's ill-advised controls.
In other sectors,u have unions controlling prices and we claim to be practising a market economy?Jokers.
U see transport and trade unions forcing members to charge at certain rates and stop those that try to sell or charge lower to stop operating.
If we are to practice true market economy, prices of many goods and services in Nigeria would be lower because the purchasing power of Nigerians has been totally bastardized. But since goods and services cannot truly be got at market determined prices, only at cartel or unions determined prices, Nigerians are forced to buy goods and services at higher prices.
