Jimi Agbaje, former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to honour the summon by the National Assembly on the issue of insecurity in the country is a total disregard for the people of Nigeria.

The President, who had earlier given his words to honour the invitation later backtracked after governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) advised him against attending.

Also, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, says the National Assembly has no constitutional power to summon President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to Malami, the right of the President to engage the National Assembly and appear before it is inherently discretionary and not at the behest of the National Assembly.

However, speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Agbaje said the President ought to have honoured the invitation of the lawmakers since they are the representatives of the people.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari owes Nigerians explanations on the raging insecurity in the country which has become a national emergency

“I am not a lawyer so will not get into the constitutionality or otherwise of their powers”.

“My position is that in our democracy, the National Assembly represents the people. In matters of national emergency like we presently have on insecurity, the President owes the people an explanation”.
“Refusal to meet the National Assembly is disregard for the people on this matter of national importance” he said.

The fear of Enyinnaya Abaribe is the beginning of Buhari's wisdom.

This APC-led government derives joy from the insecurity issues surrounding the country. Perhaps it is from there they satisfy their blood lust

More reasons why he should be impeached. Disregarding the Nass is tantamount to disregarding Nigerians.

God bless you uncle Jimi. You finally found as voice, not just sitting there all through four years to only come out during Lagos govenorship election.

For the guys that said the Reps don't represent the people . Yeah in reality they don't represent us but technically they do and have the rights to ask the president questions especially on the crucial insecurities in the country. Buhari disregarding the reps and senates is same as disregarding all Nigerians.
Bottom line: Buhari's handlers are only interested in the 4+4 ruling tenure and whatever they can loot the welfare of the people is not their f**king business. Nigerian is a lawless geographic location not a country

Buhari is sinile, he can't stand the question and answer section.
That's what the presidency is trying to avoid, that's why he didn't appear.

They even have the right to invite him. The man just get choco. Plus this is the worst Nigeria can get. All of a sudden, the president doesn’t care about the NASS. Well we all know they’re rubber stamp but wow this is too low. Section 89(1)(c) of the constitution provides in the first line that’ National Assembly has the right to summon any person in Nigeria. This ipso facto means all human beings in Nigeria – citizens or non-citizens.
