*BEING A PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL UNION OF LAGOS STATE STUDENTS ON LASU TUITION HIKE*

*TODAY, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11th, 2020*

*NULASS CONDEMN THE INCONSIDERATE AND EXORBITANT FEE HIKE IN LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU)*

- NULASS Call for Immediate Reversal of the Tuition
- NULASS Express Displeasure over LASG's Failure to Disburse Bursary and Scholarship Entitlements

The National Governing Council of the National Union of Lagos State Students write to condemn the inconsiderate exorbitant tuition for new students in Lagos State University.

It is a shocking and disappointing development that many of us never envisaged not even at a time many families are striving to recuperate from the hardship induced by the global pandemic in the last eight months.

Information reaching us confirms that the increment of the fees was about 168%. Which is an unkind increment from N25,000 to N67,048.50.

As a body saddled with the welfare of its members across the nation, we write to express our displeasure over this unkind increment.

We hereby implore the Lagos State Government to take drastic turnaround on this unfavourable policy if truly it has the love of the Youth at heart and concerned about the improvement of the educational sector in the state.

In this same light, we write to express our displeasure over the failure of the Lagos State Government, led by His Excellency Babajide Sanwoolu, to pay the 2019 & 2020 bursary and scholarship entitlements to its indigenous Undergraduates and Maritime Students.

This is a blow in the face, considering the acclaimed huge budget the Lagos State government allocated for the educational sector (a core pillar in its THEMES agenda).

It is incontrovertible that the state is striving to recover from the aftermath of the several crises that erupted in the state this year, we are also aware that huge incentives have been allocated and disbursed to several sectors across the state neglecting its indigenous students and making inconsiderate policy to scare away eager students from learning.

We thereby call on all appropriate quarters, Lagos State Governor, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, and Lagos State Commissioner for Education to immediately effect the reversal of the exorbitant policy and commence the payment of the bursary and scholarship entitlements.

Signed:
Nul. Okoya, Basirat Bisola,
National President.

Through:
Nul. Adeyeri, Waliu Olalekan,
National General Secretary.
