THE NEED FOR ALL STAKEHOLDERS TO SUPPORT A NIGERIAN PRESIDENT OF IGBO EXTRACTION IN 2023 BY PRINCE ERONDU UCHE

Is there hope for a united Nigeria again? Will Nigeria the giant of Africa overcome the threat of disintegration? Will Nigeria's dwindling economy ever resurrect? Can Nigeria be great again? These and other issues are examined by Prince Erondu Uche, PANPIEC Director of Media and Publicity.

"The strength of the nation is in each citizen, the strength of each citizen is in the nation. Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success. None of us is as smart as all of us". Nigeria, the giant of Africa is at a critical stage of her existence. There are many national issues that need urgent attention and amicable resolve before it becomes too late. The multi ethnic nature of Nigeria makes it very difficult for misrule, injustice, nepotism and corruption to thrive without serious consequences. " The state of Nigerian nation is like that of a neglected African pregnant mother groaning in labour. With the high mortality rate in Africa, the chances of her survival is very slim". Nigeria has never been so divided in her history. Even during the civil war, Nigeria was more united than now because it was Biafra versus Nigeria only. Now almost all ethnic groups, tribes and interest groups want secession. Why? There is no smoke without fire. Our rulers both past and present are responsible for this situation. "Africa needs leaders not rulers because the difference between the two is like light and darkness". Nigeria's founding fathers would be weeping in their graves with the state of things now.

The crises in Nigeria has given birth to the emergence of five major schools of thought by 2020. These are the schools of thought; The first school of thought wants Nigeria to continue the way it is as an almost failed state with the belief that one day the bible miracle will happen and it will become better. Those in this group are those who are believed to be the beneficiaries of the nation's problems. The second school of thought advocates that Nigeria should disintegrate from "the unholy marriage" as they tag it, let each tribe, ethnic group and interest groups become countries of their own. 'To your tenth oh Isreal'. Proponents of this school of thought believe that a particular tribe or clan is in control of the country's leadership and resources at the detriment of other tribes and ethnic groups. This group is made of young people, elites who believe in equality of all citizens, those against western civilisation and those who want to control the resources extracted from their localities. The third school of thought wants Nigeria to be restructured with more powers given to regions as it were in the beginning and how true federalism is practiced other than what we have today where the whole power is at the centre. They want unadulterated federalism. Proponents of this school of thought are elites, interest groups, elder statesmen who wish Nigeria well, those who witnessed a prosperous Nigeria in the first republic and those who believe we can get the best out of our diversity. The fourth school of thought is of the opinion that the next President of Nigeria that will emerge in 2023 to succeed President Mohammadu Buhari should be of Igbo extraction. Proponents of this opinion are elites, those who believe in equality of all citizens, those who believe that the injustice against Igbo extraction should end, those who see Nigeria's population as added advantage for development and those who preach peace and believe that the industrious power of Igbo will delete Nigeria from the list of third worlds. This group is the most popular and accepted school of thought. The last school of thought wants all old hands in the game and politicians above sixty years of age to vacate all elective and appointed political positions and hand over to the youths. This group, mostly youths and elites are of the opinion that past and present rulers who are now grandfathers and great grandfathers got into power as youths and by moral standards should retire and handover to the youths. They also believe that Nigeria can only develop when youths who own this generation are in governance at all levels.

In response to the yearnings of the masses, the All Progressives Congress, APC led federal government has displayed lack of political will in restructuring the country. The reason for this lackadaisical response is still unknown. In an ideal society and where democracy is being practiced, the will of the people is what the government of the day carries out. For example, the united states of America and some western states who allow gay marriage do so because the majority of their people want it, it is the will of the people no matter how bad it appears to be for those who oppose it. In Nigeria the government forces its will and policies on the people which is against the ethics of Democratic governance. On the other hand, it will take the bible miracle for any Nigerian government to do like developed nations do where issues of secession is advocated for which is to conduct a referendum and subsequently allow people to be on their own as they wish. While no patriotic Nigerian would want us to continue like this without positive change, Political analysts do not believe that this present day politicians will willingly step aside for the youths to take over not minding that they started as youths. "Good elders are those who plant trees they know they won't be alive to take shade under them". The school of thought with upper hand and more chances to be the only way forward is Nigerian President of Igbo extraction come 2023.

Nigerian President of Igbo extraction promises to capture another two schools of thought when it sails through, restructuring and youths in governance. The proponents of this all inclusive school of thought believes that Igbo being patriotic and having supported Nigeria's unity deserves to be allowed to produce the next President like other tribes have been supported to produce Presidents in past. In 1999, the major two political parties nominated two yorubas Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Olu Falae as their Presidential candidates. This was done in order to pacify the Yoruba nation for the annulled 1993 June 12 election. In 2019, the two major political parties nominated Gen. Mohammadu Buhari and Alh. Atiku Abubarka as their Presidential candidates. This was done to make sure that the north completes its second term which was distorted due to Umaru Yar' Adua's death.

In a recent town hall meeting organized by Pan Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction Coalition PANPIEC the umbrella body controlling all groups campaigning for Igbo to produce the next president after Mohammadu Buhari in 2023, it stated that Nigeria president of Igbo extraction project is championed by youths, the Director of Media and Publicity Prince Erondu Uche PEU is a youth. It noted that eighty percent of the group is made of youths. According to the group, an Igbo as President will restructure Nigeria and address other national issues. The group further said that the problem of insecurity, power, infrastructure and the dwindling economy will be properly addressed. In support of this, political, economic and social Analysts believe that the industrious power of the Igbos will come into play and make Nigeria develop rapidly when Igbo man or woman becomes Nigerian President in 2023.

The call for all to support Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023 is a welcome development. An Igbo occupying the number one position in Nigeria is what is needed to end all forms of agitations and usher in good governance. It will further prove that Nigeria as an entity appreciates Igbo's contributions to her unity. Some scholars have forecasted that the failure of Igbo becoming the next President in 2023 will spell doom for the nation. Some say there will be another civil war, while others believe Nigeria will cease to exist before or by 2023. It is therefore important that all political parties and stakeholders should support Igbo to succeed President Mohammadu Buhari in 2023. Ignoring this call by eminent Nigerians for whatever reason will not be in the interest of the nation.
