Pension that is compulsory they steal d money and people have to cry and beg and protest and stay under the sun for their own pensions. Insurance is compulsory in cars but hit somebody's car u are on your own, Nigerian insurance is just to fulfil all righteousness. Now u want health insurance, ordinary the rudest human beings on earth are in government hospitals now ur money is with them and u have no choice u are setting urself up for full time frustration. U would go to hospital amount u go use bribe them to attend to u would be almost d same amount u would have paid to normal government hospital, cause minister of health and his cronies would steal the entire health insurance fund and run to Niger republic then when they bring them back they faint in court 23 Likes 2 Shares |

However in Oyo state,Health Insurance is a big deal..The Ajimobi administration started a health insurance scheme for only people in the formal sector alone and I think Oyo state civil servants alone. The Seyi Makinde administration did an expansion that brought in artisans and people in the informal sector on board. It is a nice program as it is always advertised on radio and has a segment for it on Isaac Brown's Saturday morning programme on Fresh FM 1 Like |

I once registered for the national health insurance scheme run by the federal government but nothing came out of it up till today. No documents to show for it, neither is their any identity card or proof to show my successful enrollment. The best is still out of pocket treatments whether with local drugs or foreign drugs. Above all, may we never be sick beyond the normal malaria and typhoid. 11 Likes |

Please help tell them o. How long has this been on front page? How many comments so far? It's still on page 1 sef.... This lacklustre attitude of our people to important things get as e be o. No crowd viewing or trying to comment when it's not a "sensational" topic. Health is wealth o eyin ara mi. Just like Auto insurance or any other insurance for that matter, you pay but you don't use it . There comes a day sha that you will appreciate having it. Our mentality for this side of the world that if I'm not sick, then no need to go to the Dr is wrong. At least quarterly visits to the doctor's office is okay. That is how you manage your health. A word is enough for the wise. ![]() 5 Likes |

This is a thought provoking issue because health is one of the indices of development of any nation. NHIS have failed if they could achieve only 5% coverage of the total population from 2005 till date. I know they are coming up with 'health insurance under one roof policy' that will enable each state to establish its own state health insurance scheme to improve coverage. Above all, political commitment to the development of this country is lacking. The style of government gives room for little or no form of long term development. Out of pocket cost on health by Nigerians is killing and has killed many Nigerians especially those in rural areas who could not seek health care because of the high cost. |

Every type of insurance is a ponzi scheme, you pay money constantly to a HMO and hope they give you back some of it, registering with an HMO doesn't mean health is free, you will still pay out of pocket expenses for certain test s and treatment. You don't get to choose your doctors or clinic. Pregnant women don't enjoy maternity care until the 2nd year of registration. Doctors can't even give quality care, only the HMOs gain, patients and doctors loose. Health care insurance only leads to rising cost of health care with decreasing health quality. Speaking from a subscribers point of view. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Plut01: You the kind of customers the HMO wants just pay your premium every year and don't fall sick, 100% profit for them. Just like the 3rd party car insurance money we dash to insurance companies every year, we fix our cars with no reimbursement. |

Not sure most people know about Health Insurance and it’s benefits. More sensitization needed for appreciation and possible enrollment. |
Re: Reasons Why Health Insurance Should Be Compulsory In Nigeria by DrFunmisticGlow: 4:54pm On Dec 14, 2020 |
quentin06:I also share this view. Many HMOs don't even pay hospitals. So when you as a HMO patient walks into the hospital, you will be given the cheapest available drug. Some HMOs don't even cover malaria injections only drugs, others will tell you that they only pay for 3 days worth of paracetamol instead of the usual five days because that is how long it takes to treat malaria. A good friend of mine who is a nurse was given children's dose of antimalarial medicine in her HMO hospital. She had to shout and tell them that she was a nurse, and still had to shout at her HMO officer. I hope she stopped using their services 2 Likes |
