Every Undergraduate Student Needs Self Reflection To Improve Performance by uniprojectM1: 7:01pm On Dec 14, 2020
Self reflection which is more like self assessment and thinking generally about life is very important to students especially in terms of improving on their academic performance. Self reflection is very important as it helps students to have a deep thought about their academics generally and if they are not comfortable with their performance, they sort ways for improvement. The practice of self-reflection assists undergraduate students and individuals to identify their weaknesses and improve their practice. However, transitioning students from external to intrinsic motivation to succeed; reflection must be integrated and embraced within the classroom. Therefore, while reflection does not need to take the place of a teacher’s assessment, it can be infused as part of an activity to enhance student performance because, if students are “makers of meaning,” their own thoughts and interpretation of their work and its overall impact “have to be part of the mix.
Reflection requires the ability to analyze and prioritize issues, to use tacit and resource-based knowledge, and to develop a feasible plan of action. “Reflection is also a means by which practitioners can develop a greater level of self-awareness about the nature and impact of their performance.” This awareness of one’s performance makes individuals think about and mull over their experiences, classroom activities and leads to improved practice. Lecturers and teachers use reflection to facilitate their own teaching as well as for the facilitation of teaching and learning.

SELF REFLECTION

Self reflection is like looking into a mirror and describing what you see. It is a way of assessing yourself, your ways of working, and how you study. To put it simply 'reflection' means to think about something.
Self-reflection is the key to self-awareness: it allows us to look neutrally at our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions. Through this practice, we are able to look at ourselves with interest and curiosity.
Reflection is an active process of witnessing one’s own experience in order to take a closer look at it, sometimes to direct attention to it briefly, but often to explore it in greater depth. This can be done in the midst of an activity or as an activity in itself. The key to reflection is learning how to take perspective on one’s own actions and experience in other words, to examine that experience rather than just living it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF REFLECTION
The importance of self reflection to both individual and undergraduate students cannot be overemphasized. Self reflection helps one to deliberate about his/her life and identify where he/she needs to make amendments and improvement as well. It also gives one the opportunity to have a deep thought about what he/she is doing, has achieved, character, attitudes, general well-being and performance. Self-reflection also helps us to look upon what we've done in order to change and grow. By practicing reflection, undergraduate students can better integrate learning and approach teaching with an improved state of awareness and confidence. To understand the power of reflection on learning, we must understand how the brain processes experience.

SELF REFLECTION AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE

Reflection during studies is especially important in education of future special educators for their inclusive type of work, when the activities are based on relations between the educational process participants, encountering personal objections, contradictory feelings and emotions, and the like. Special educators who seek humane and stimulating inclusive education will be able to integrate their own experience and theoretical knowledge when they adequately reflect during their study, which is one of the aims required to foster students’ ability to reflect on their own experiences and improve their academic performance. The importance of self reflection is also seen in undergraduate projects and seminar presentation. Students that engage them selves in self reflection tend to stand out. Self reflection has a great influence on the performance of undergraduate students’ performance as it helps them to think and reflect upon their academic performance ion school which eventually helps them identify what they are not doing as well as areas they need to improve on academically and otherwise.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, self reflection is very important and necessary for the improvement of academic performance. It is a moment of deep thought about how far you’ve come and where you are going. It is a mirror through which you see yourself and know places or area you need to give attention to especially in your academics.
