What Countries Are Best For A Civil Engineering Graduate? by Iwant2travel: 8:51pm On Dec 17, 2020
Hello Everyone,
I recently graduated with first class honors in civil engineering from a private university in Nigeria. And I intend on getting a fully funded scholarship to study abroad. There are 2 things I’d need your expertise on, the first is about getting fully funded scholarship opportunities. I’d appreciate it if you suggest available scholarships I can apply to.
Now the second thing is that I have 3 countries in mind which are Canada, USA and UK, but I don’t know which to choose from as well as which country offers better opportunities for a civil engineering graduate.
I am open to all your suggestions. Thank you!

Check for countries that offer you a chance to stay back and study. Germany, Canada and the USA should top your list. With a first class and good GRE scores you can go to the USA fully funded.

Thank you so much for taking your time to respond. I’m still researching on fully funded scholarships, I’ll dig into USA.

Errm, you don't need to do such kind of research because "scholarship" in the US differs significantly from others. Follow these steps. Even someone with a third class who does same will get "scholarship".

Visit the General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 here on travel section and GRE thread in education section. Read it from the beginning to the end, you will know what to do.

But the summary is:
1) Prepare for GRE like your life depends on it. Make sure you get a good score. It's a maths and English exam. It costs circa $200

2)Prepare for TOEFL and get a good score. It's an English exam. It costs circa $200

3) Learn how to write a personal statement.

4) Research for US schools that meet your needs and apply to as many schools in the US as you can. I recommend you apply to 3 schools. Each application costs between $50 to $80. I also recommend you target PhD programs especially as you have a first class degree because they give you full funding by the professor plus monthly stipends automatically the moment you get admitted. And you can apply to PhD with only BSc.

5)Get admission, pay your SEVIS fee, I think it's circa $200 and Visa fee.

6) Prepare and go for your visa interview and succeed.

7)Book your flight to the US.

NB: Don't fail to go to the US students thread I recommended earlier and the GRE thread in education section. Also make sure you have your transcript with you, and have 2 to 3 of your undergraduate lecturers that are willing to write an amazing recommendation letter for you.

Best wishes!
