Nigeria is no doubt a country with the proverbial nine lives. However, one thing is certain, it has used up its 8 lives already and is now living in borrowed time.

Sure, the country survived grueling 3 years civil war that left millions dead. Survived series of coups and ethno-religious crises that left thousands dead and properties worth billions destroyed. Survived annulment of elections and political assassinations. It is important to note that many countries that experienced what Nigeria has passed through didn't survive, they end up broken apart. However, by some act of providence, we tend to overcome one tragedy after another and our borders and boundaries still remain in-tact. Thus, it created an impression that no matter what happens, we will always pull through ultimately. This thinking made those profiting from Nigeria's unending tragedy to assume that they will always get away with their impunities.

One thing they fell to acknowledge is that with each tragedy Nigeria experiences, it moves closer to balkanization. Also, the Northern region has always been at the forefront of keeping Nigeria as one while Southern region grudgingly goes along with it while pretending and saying the now cliche "One Nigeria". The challenge now is that the North that have always demanded and dictated that Nigeria must remain and on their own terms is now a shadow of itself. The region has not only fallen apart but is now the world's most dangerous and miserable place on Earth. The North now lacks the cohesion, unity and wherewithal to effectively stop a united South should they call their bluff now.

The same North that could easily invade SW, arrest their most respected leader in the person of Awolowo and throw him into jail while declaring a curfew on the people or even unanimously discarding Abiola's electrol win into the trash bin without baiting an eyelid could no longer stop the SW from forming a militia group code-named Amotekun despite how much they kicked against it. The same North that went to war backed by Britain to kill millions and force Igbos back into the fold.....

It's actually the exact opposite.. igbos and unity are opposite ends that can never meet.

If an igbo man becomes president and they don't impeach or kill him within six months, then Nigeria is sure to break up e.g. Ironsi.

Nigerians first thought it was a joke when pictures and videos of thousands of well-kitted and well-armed men surfaced all over the internet and the story that accompanied it was that they were ESN that is Eastern Security Network being sponsored by Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB. Not a few Nigerians were shocked by their massive numbers and people kept wondering how Nnamdi Kanu could take government unawares and pull off such activity in Nigeria! So, in essence, what it means now is that the three regions of Southern Nigeria are now effectively armed while the North continues to sink deeper into anarchy and iminent implosion. Which begs the question, if the North can't save itself, is it Nigeria that it can save if eventually the clowd that is gathering starts to rain cats and dogs?

Let's face it, Igbo elite actually believe in and want Nigeria to survive but Igbo masses hate Nigeria. If the North against all wise council decides to perpetuate itself in power by succeeding Buhari, they will end up humiliating Igbo elite which will force them to close ranks with Igbo masses in pushing for Biafra. On the other hand, the North can't support a president from SW knowing that by doing so, they would have effectively enthroned the Yorubas as the new political power block and also the economic power base by virtue of Lagos. A Yoruba president in 2023 will mean that Yorubas have now ruled even more than the Hausas or Fulanis!

With the North in total disarray without any solution in sight, a Yoruba president will consolidate their hold and influence in Nigeria while technically advancing their move for Oduduwa republic. They've already formed amotekun as a stand by militia group, so a cunning Yoruba man as president will easily push
for gradual split of Nigeria. This leaves out Igbo elite as the only group that indeed will want to save Nigeria. They're the ones that have invested billions of naira in Abuja and Lagos among other areas in Nigeria.

The reason why you pray it never comes to fruition because you want the country to be broken up ASAP is the exact reason why it will be given to an Igboman.

In 1999, Obasanjo was not the most credible Yoruba man talk more of in Nigeria. In 2007, Yaradua was not the most credible person in the North West talk more of Nigeria. In 2015, Buhari was not the most credible person in the North West talk more of Nigeria yet they were all made president.

The East/Igboland has both the good, bad and ugly to select from, just as other areas.

I'm actually apathetic to what becomes of Nigeria going forward because breaking up or staying together has its merits and demerits. I'm only putting things in their right perspective regardless.

This is a reverse approach, no Igbo man want Nigeria to break, and if it must break, Igbo do not want to break away as Igbo Nation rather as Biafra that must include non Igbo speaking territories. Do not forget that it was Igbo man in person of Aguiyi Ironsi that introduced this Unitary system. So all this noise of Igbo want Nigeria to break is because they can not outsmart the Hausa Fulanis and The Yoruba in this political game to get the power because those are two major ethnic groups too, so Igbos will rather want Nigeria to break and the break away with other ethnicities they see as minorities in the Southern region of Nigeria.

A reduced market share for us Igbos. We have 200 million people as customers but breaking up will certainly diminish it drastically and don't tell me will still have ECOWAS and all that because you can see what is happening in Ghana as an example. There are ten times more Igbos in Lagos alone there are in Ghana or in Northern Nigeria, and the locals there are already envious of us. Once Nigeria breaks, they will enact laws that will put us in serious disadvantage, especially in the SW.

Now arguing that our people will return in mass back to our home land will create serious housing crises. A 3 bedroom flat that is being rented for 300,000 will suddenly jump to 700,000 due to demand outstripping supply. The government will be overwhelmed trying to meet up with recurrent expenditure and would have little left to engage in massive infrastructural projects to cushion the effects. Slums will start growing all over our cities as people who can't afford the expensive rents are forced to live on shanties.

These are some of the demerits, other regions will equally face theirs. Although, some of the emerging countries may be able to overcome these challenges with time while others may not and could descend into wars and chaos.

I'm a practical person and I don't like allowing emotions to becloud logical reasons. However, in as much as we can't stay together if killings continue unabated, breaking up should be a last resort.

This is not a thread for people to be saying rubbish. I'm trying to be objective here but that doesn't mean you guys can be saying trash here.

Igbo man is full hate yet they're the most peaceful and would never go out to attack any one yet the Fulanis that are not "hateful" have been hacking you all to death even without provocation and still rule over you.

Where is your sense? Where is your logic?

Nigerians have very low IQ and that is why they keep having terrible leaders and keep suffering untold hardship because they're incapable of thinking and behaving like modern humans. If I posted such write up in decent platforms like Quora, you will see reasonable ideas and suggestions being brought forward but here all you will see is senseless responses. SMH.

It is now clear why Nigeria became a bastardized and miserable country, the people are so so dumb!
