The apex Igbo socio cultural Youth Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (ONYC) Worldwide has attributed the sudden collapse of Amb George Obiozor at the last Imeobi meeting of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at Enugu on Sunday as the anger of the gods of Igbo land who are annoyed over undue imposition on the leadership of the people.

According to the youth body, the incident could be a way the gods of Igbo land wanted to warn against undue imposition of any candidate to the Ohanaeze exalted position, adding that it is an abomination in Igbo land to impose a leadership on the people without them choosing who will lead them.

In a statement signed by the President-General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the youth body insisted that they will only support a candidate that is not sponsored by any government or group or in any way prodded to represent an interest or interests.

Nonetheless, the Igbo youth prayed for the quick recovery of the elder statesman and diplomat, saying that Obiozo deserved a good rest and adequate medical treatment abroad and not engage in the tasking assignment of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Their word: “Anyone projecting George Obiozor to continue in the race for President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo after he publicly collapsed at the Imeobi meeting in the Enugu is not fair to Ndigbo”.

“Those still urging Amb Obiozor to continue after he publicly collapsed, are only waiting to exploit the political and diplomatic relationship between Obiozor and President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and use the office of Chief of Staff for their political gains, adding “it will certainly not be in the best interest of Ndigbo”.

“Obiozor should avoid these people and take the path of honour by pulling out of the race and save Ndigbo the embarrassment of a defeat”.
