Effective traffic management doesn't have to go hand in hand with extortion and oppression. Eko has a population explosion issue.
Odd and even number days, enforcement of BRT lane, enforcement of one way, opening gates blocking streets so that alternative routes can be accessible, evacuating broken down vehicles parked permanently and removing illegal shops and business structures that impede on the road ( plus removal of garbage and clearing drainages). There is a lot that can be done, without setting traps to collect money from 'offenders' - which seems to be the only thing police and LASTMA officials are motivated to do. If low income earners are consistently paying to 'bail' themselves to the extent that their business model is no longer sustainable, they will react.
In Abuja, task force of all kinds are frustrating business owners. It doesn't make sense.

How can a law really work in Nigeria
I'm not making excuses for them but you know, Nigeria is like our personal land.
So when you make a law here, it's like you entered somebody's father's house and gave him instruction inside his father's house. Of course he will say F*** You! Don't tell me anything. This is my house.
This seems to be the attitude of Nigerians towards laws.
Americans don't behave this way because they know they don't own that land. They stole it from the Native Americans. Nigerians mostly behave themselves in other countries because they can always be deported for disobedience.

And who's going to make scapegoats out of the police themselves or are they above the Law too?

So the poor can only survive by breaking traffic law? Nobody stops them from doing their business, they brought this on themselves by disobeying the law.

NO NO NO to the Lagos State methods of using Task Force on Civilians!
Is it not same Task Force Who bids directly or indirectly to get the bicycles seized?
In a normal settings like India - you have - Keke Nappep, the Okada and Cars jostling along the road in New Delhi and suburbs, without any molestation.
Most of the time here when the Task Force boys need money or cash, they launch operations and seized private properties. This is wrong and a better methods and approach should be adopted! While we condemned the indiscipline of the Okada riders but it is the same Politicians that uses them during an elections and discard them ones the elections are over. Too bad!

Well said.
It is madness around alimosho area. The bikes drive against traffic and instruct you (by gesticulating) to move aside for them as if you are the wrong one. The commercial busses do the same. Traffic light nko, that one na toy to them.
We urgently need the tax force to restore normalcy.

U do not take away a man's source of livelihood without providing an alternative and think u have some laws that will be respected. Even distribution of wealth is the only antidote for lawlessness, look at European countries. U want to build a mega city for people that cannot feed, reducing poverty n joblessness should be the first agenda....people know the consequences of these laws they flout but they still go ahead and damn the consequences, not because they see themselves as invincible but because hunger must be quenched first, then we can discuss.
You should be blaming other state governors for not providing for their citizens, hence encouraging them to go to Lagos. Lagos state cannot cater for all of Nigeria's problems. Other governors need to start working.

Good work by the task force. The lawlessness on the road since the #endsars brouhaha is alarming and troubling, and its important that the state rise up against it to keep its pedigree as one of the safest and working states in Africa.
Lagos must be great by force.

We said this just 4 or 5 days ago when FRSC came up with how to make Lagos and Nigeria as a whole sane during this yuletide season.

We actually said many people will be arrested, especially in Lasgidi, cos almost 80% of road users in Nigeria are stubborn and actually require some psychiatric test!

No, don't call us prophets, just call us , the Barbecue Experts!!

i hope you know whether Lagos o, zamfara o, rivers o, federal govt o, whether apc o, pdp o, they all belong in the same bracket of useless leaders...besides these foreigners that live in lagos diectly or indirectly contribute to the overall income of Lagos state, when they purchase from businesses n market women and men taxed by lagos state govt , we dont treat them as foreigners; when their wives n children buy BRT tickets to commute around lagos , we dont treat them as foreigners...And do you think there are no indigenes of Lagos state riding okada?

The question is simple? Are you carrying out the mandate given to your team properly and fairly? NO

They just like to oppress people the way they like and they're fond of it in that Yaba axis.
must u comment when you have nothing sensible to say

Are you happy about the chaotic traffic situation in Lagos?
If you ask me, the police have been very lenient with okada and bus drivers who violate traffic laws

It is not all the time we must blame the police

U have made no sense here, trying to justify lawlessness by such lame excuse of hunger
Nobody said they shouldn't ride okada, government only restricted them to certain places

People should also learn to follow the law.
If they say dont operate Okada on this particular road, please DONT.

ISSUES
The Govt should also Sign-Post all Roads properly so that Motorists dont need to be asking one dubious and mischievous Policeman, whether a Road is one-way or not, the Security Agents mislead Drivers most times, so they can arrest them and seize their vehicles.

Also, there is so much Corruption and malfeasance, in the Auctioning of seized vehicle, by those Auctioning it.
Infact, those who partake (and their family members) in the seizing should be barred from partaking in the auctioning or purchase of such vehicle, due to CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
The Process should be open and very transparent, not the current 'robbery' Lagos State Govt is said to be doing at Alausa

Finally, l hope Lagos Govt is not creating more Armed Robbers for the People of Lagos, with all these their actions, in th emidst of a Pandemic, Unemployment and recent unrest as a result of the #EndSA RS protest?

"I hope govt is not creating more armed robbers for the people of Lagos". NO.

Do not forget that government did not place a total ban on Okadas and kekes. They have routes. The reasonable ones stick to the approved routes. The greedy and foolish ones irresponsibly supported by the "get there quickly" passengers ply the prohibited routes, get arrested and lose their bikes. If they choose to become robbers, which some of them already are, they will get arrested too.

Endsars came and left. Lagos has been taken over by NURTW touts and you see them illegally controlling traffic and collecting tolls all over. Government has the responsibility of ensuring sanity on the roads. I've always said that police will bounce back and be more ruthless following their losses. Our citizens must be more careful and law abiding.

In India you do not find Okadas. You find private bikes ridden by the owners, not for commercial purposes. Kekes are called Autos and you do not find them riding lawlessly against the traffic.

For society to function effectively, laws and rules must be obeyed. Some of us should not give ourselves away as law breakers or supporters of acts of illegality. In some states, Okada operations are completely banned and yet no one fights government there. Why must people make mockery of the efforts of the government of Lagos.

The task force is not there to take bribe, but rather enforce the rules. It is unfortunate that people lose their sources of livelihood this way, but you blame the greedy riders. They want to leave street corners where they are restricted to and ride in highways where they can take home twenty times that amount daily.

By the way have can you be able to quantify the lives lost on one ways and the reckless behaviour of Okadas?
