I have used ATM for more than a decade without losing a cent.Experience has also shown that most of the frauds are due to carelessness of card owners e.g Allowing strangers to help them at the ATM,the stranger then swaps their cards,leaving them with a dummy card,after a while,they start receiving debit alerts.Or divulging PIN and card details to fraudsters who pretend to be bank staff over the phone.Etc

High Level of illiteracy is the main cause. How do you explain a customer receiving a call from a bank to send you the code the bank sent to you? How can a bank that sends you a code ask you to send back the code sent to you?

Two banks that are most notorious for ATM frauds are:
UBA and First Bank.
It seems majority of the staff in those two banks are Criminals that aid fraudsters.
They will sell your identity to the criminals who will then clone your card and they will even be the ones to alert the Criminals of which account is lax, unsecured or have big funds.
Most Bank frauds are INSIDE jobs.
But when a bank employs someone to work in[b] its I.T dept or other back-end and makes them Contract staff for over three years[/b], paying them peanuts, what do we expect?
It is actually one of the Ogas at the bank that sets-up an recruitment agency and then uses that agency to recruit staff for the bank.
The Oga can be collecting say #200K as emolument for each staff from the bank, but then pays the Bank Worker around #50K monthly, pocketing the remaining #150K and maintaining the worker as a Contract staff meaning he also collects their 'staff allowances".

The CBN and Labour must work together to ensure that they stop this nonsense of contract jobs in a bank and ensure a minimum pay for any person working in a bank. EFCC should also beam their search-light on the HR of these banks, a lot of criminality is going on inside our banks

If you didn’t request for any OTP and you get one, delete immediately. If you would make transactions at POS, let them insert and remove the card in your presence. Don't allow anyone take picture of your debit/credit card. Watch the atm machine if it has not be tempered in any way before inserting your card.

It is simple:
Have two or more accounts: Don't have an ATM card or internet banking on the account containing your major funds. While you can have ATM cards and internet banking on the others having marginal funds.
When you need to do big transactions from your major account, go physically to the banking hall, the cashiers will want to bully you into having ATM card and internet banking, insist you don't have a smart phone. They will do your transactions over the counter.
If they are obstinate, request to close the account and move your funds to another bank.
Never let them force or cajole you into doing internet banking and ATM card on your major account.

not having the Internet banking is even the biggest mistake. Have the Internet banking and guard it judiciously.

don't mind dat person. Having Internet banking is far more safer Dan not having it at all. It can be created in absence by a 3rd party who hacks into your account. It's better to create and block it from the bank. This way, it needs your authorisation to be reactivated.

You ask people you trust to help draw cash , you discuss business transactions in public vehicles or joints. You click every link you see, you leave transaction alerts on your phone, use only one branch for all your transaction, drop your mobile number tied to your account everywhere, patronise funny betting sites and refuse to learn-every bank has shortcodes to disable an account in case of emergency. You reading what is the shortcode for your bank?

Just like a traditional web hosting, there are hosting devices on dark web, some hackers even leaked the list of hoping services sometimes back, you also need an TLD called .onion, just like we have .com .net .Ng and the likes, .onion is used in the dark web

You don't go there to withdraw large sums, you go there to send money. I have a relations who is quite rich he doesn't do online banking neither does he have an ATM. If wants to transact any business he goes to the bank make use of cheque. I think that's a wise decision. Have several accounts the one with your main cash shouldn't have atm card and don't sign up for online banking.
