The race for the 2023 presidency has been gaining prominence in recent political discussions, though many analysts and political experts have argued that it is too early to draw attention to where the next president will come from.

The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is likely to zone his presidential ticket to the southern region after the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
This has apparently sparked off interest from the southwest and southeast, with Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-political group, leading the front in the demand for an Igbo man to take over the helms of affairs when Buhari leaves.

Although prominent individuals including APC national leader Bola Tinubu and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state have been rumoured to be eyeing the top seat, there has been a profound argument that since Yoruba has produced a Nigerian president, Igbo should take over for the sake of justice and fairness.

As permutations continue to prelude the 2023 race, Zamfara Reporters highlights 5 people likely to succeed President Buhari should APC or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decide to zone its ticket to the southeast.

1. Orji Uzor Kalu

A former governor of Abia state and currently the Senate chief whip, Senator Kalu is one of the leading candidates from the southeast considered to be fit for the biggest office in the country.
In fact, youths from the southeast and other parts of the country have been drumming support for the APC chieftain who is also one of the leaders of the Igbo race.

2. Chris Ngige

A two-term current minister of Works and Employment, Ngige is one of the southeast leaders in the ruling party.
He has served as a former governor Anambra and was elected senator for Anambra Central constituency in 2011.
A senior cabinet member and ally of the president, Ngige may be tipped to take a shot at the respected seat in the country drawing from his vast experience

3. Governor Dave Umahi

The current governor of Ebonyi state just defected to the ruling party in what many people including Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state have attributed to the 2023 plan.
A chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum (SGF), Umahi has always been recognised as one of the people capable of succeeding President Buhari in 2023.

4. Rochas Okorocha

Former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, is one of those set to benefit should the southeast region of the country be eventually considered to take a shot at the presidency in 2023.
The former governor was on Monday, November 16, urged to vie for the 2023 presidential ticket by a group, Igbos for Rochas Movement 2023 Presidency (IRM).
During a visit to his home, IRM national coordinator Jeff Nwoha stated that the former governor’s resume, after careful deliberations with other leaders, fits the presidency.
The former governor is an ally of the president and he is considered to be in the race.

5. Peter Obi

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, is one of the top candidates considered for the presidency from the southeast.
An experienced businessman and economist, Obi is the PDP vice-presidential candidate during the last general election, running with former VP Atiku Abubakar.

Meanwhile, as the conversation on the 2023 presidency continues to gain prominence amid sundry calls for the next president to be of Igbo extraction, two Anglican and Catholic bishops have pitched their tents with Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
This is as Anglican Archbishop on the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rev Alexander Ibezim and Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Paulinus Ezeokafor declared that an Igbo man should be allowed to rule the country.

How dare you compare Orji Kalu ( thief) and Peter Obi (Saint). The atrocities done in Abia state by Kalu and his mum are still there to correct. And you want to compare him with Peter that revolutionised a very backward Anambra state to a frontline state in Nigeria.

Any wonder why Nigeria is and will remain a shithole for the foreseeable future? It keeps on electing allowing clowns to rule it!

At a time other countries are electing young, vibrant and forward-thinking individuals to pilot their affairs in this digital age, Nigeria goes and picks the likes of Buhari and Kalu!

Can we hear the atrocities.

Please don't mention any allegation from Obasanjo and his EFCC because it was all political to punish him for challenging Obasanjo's third term

Obasanjo seized N1. 2 billion from Abia State annual allocation for unknown loan from military government.

Obasanjo destroyed Slok Airline.
Obasanjo destroyed Slok Oil and gas
Obasanjo banned Slok Shipping line

What was remaining?

You asked a question and at the same time answering them by giving me conditions. Where is that done?
Was Kalu the only governor opposed to Obasanjo's third term? Why has he not been able to clear his name over the years when some of his colleagues have cleared theirs.
That guy stole from Abia state, it's very plain and simple. Ran to APC to be protected.
Just go to Abia state and see how dilapidated and backward the state is in terms of infrastructure and development.
Aba is a slum thanks to Kalus inability to develop it. He was in the best position to pioneer real development in Abia state.
Because of Kalus selfishness and greed for power and money he imposed a complete failure of a man Orji inorder to continue his control over Abia. But failed woefully.
He may have performed a little better than that disaster of Theodore Orji but Kalus brand of politics open the door for the rape of Abia State resources till date.

Repeating an accusation without evidence in damn nonsense.

What did he steal?

Tell us another politician that his State allocation (N1.2 billion annually by FG) was seized with fantom excuse of loan repayments till date without reinbusment accept Orji Uzor Kalu?

Tell me another politician that lost Shipping line, Airline and Oil conglomerate accept Orji Uzor Kalu?

Tell us another politician the US Ambassador told his government was making $20 million annually from oversee business.

Abia state and Aba is all the proof you need. Development and growth is continuous process whether it's positive or negative.
If, Kalu has done such a great work as you claim, Abia state won't be in the mess it is right now.
Tinubu, his colleague also had similar challenges with Obasanjo, but to his credit, he did set the stage of development Lagos is currently enjoying even though he too is a fraud.
Lagos would have gone far ahead of Nigeria as a whole, if, not that Lagos is in Tinubus pocket thereby hindering it's growth. Such people should never be allowed to lead Nigeria.
For me Nd my household Orji Kalu is a fat No for us. With all Nigeria has been through, we don't need another fraud ruling Nigeria on behalf of SE.
SE needs to present their best to set a high standard of what Nigeria can achieve.
If Kalu couldn't do for Abia State, is it Nigeria he will be able to do it? I dont think so.
He may be your choice, so goodluck with him.

Comparing Lagos State a former capital of Nigeria that gets tax money from around Nigeria to Aba is ridiculous.

Aba is not and has never been a capital of any State.
