Suspects call the company for ransom

Three suspects have been arrested by men of the Edo state police command for an alleged self-kidnapping.

The suspects are identified as Kingsley Innocent, Hope James Elijah and Samuel Effiong, all from Akwa Ibom state but residents in Edo.

Standard Gazette gathered that one of them, Hope James, was alleged to have conceived the idea to raise money to resolve an urgent financial problem.

Kingsley Innocent and Hope James who worked in the same company in Ovia South West Local government area of Edo state then agreed that Kingsley should find a place to lay low while they raise an alarm that he has been kidnapped for ransom.

Kingsley Innocent then hide at Samuel Effiong’s house in Udo town in Ovia South-West local government area of Edo state, Standard Gazette learned.

Kidnapping alarm was actually raised to the management of the company where Mr innocent worked.

They told the company that the man was kidnapped on his way to work.

One of the suspects then called the Management of the company to demand Five Million Naira ransom to effect his release.

The company which is not mentioned for security reasons contacted the police immediately and an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Through high technical intelligence, the location of the suspects was detected.

They were subsequently arrested by the police.

In an interview with Standard Gazette correspondent, Festus Alenkhe, the suspects blamed their criminal action on poverty.

The police, however, vowed to charge the three suspects to court for self-kidnapping which is defined in the criminal code as a major offence.
