Cote d'Ivoire crisis: Returnees flood Osun communities

Tunde Odesola, Osogbo

Nigerians displaced by the political crisis in Cote d'Ivoire have flooded Osun communities such as Ejigbo, Inisha, Okuku, Oyan and Ikirun.

Investigation by our correspondent showed that the displaced Nigerians were forced to return to their native communities in Nigeria, following the political crisis that engulfed the cocoa-rich country.

The spokesperson for Ejigbo returnees, Mr Tajudeen Oladipupo, said on Wednesday that over two million Nigerians were displaced by the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire.

Oladipupo is also the Publicity Relations Officer, Ibile Ejigbo Parapo.

Oladipupo, who claimed that Ejigbo indigenes dominated the population of Nigerians in Cote d'Ivoire, maintained that the displacement had adversely affected Nigerian families living in the country.

He said, "Many Nigerians displaced by the crisis have returned to Nigeria. Several Nigerian families have been affected because their sources of living have been cut off by the crisis.

"The affected people have become a sudden burden on Nigeria's economy and settling down has been very difficult."

It is. Hardly is there any family in Ejigbo, Osun state and it's environs that do not have kinsmen in IVC. They've been travelling/relocating to IVC as far back as the early twenties.

They even have a loading park to IVC on specific days. . . (i doubt the park'll be doing much of taking out now. T'will be doing more of bringing in)

how could there be 2 million nigerians in IVC?

even the US hardly has that amount i think.

according to this site:

http://immigrationpolicy.org/just-facts/african-immigrants-america-demographic-overview

the total number of african born immigrants in the US in 2010 or so, was 1,606,914- thats under two million and for africans in general, not nigerians alone.

for those who dont know, a flat implies a modern building made of bricks and with a toilet included.

lets stop disgracing nairaland with half baked comments showcasing semi literacy, thanks.

if someone says they are looking for a two or three bedroom flat, the asumption is the reader will know what he's referring to.
