Seun, Lalasticlala, Plese help, so Nigerians can see the truth

The Second Niger Bridge Project costs a whopping N414bn (approx $1.09B). The bridge alone costs N206bn ($540m), while the link roads cost 208bn ($545m). This puts it very close to the most expensive bridges in the world. While there has been far costlier bridge projects in the world, the Niger Bridge has nothing spectacular about its design or the terrain to justify the heavy expenditure. It is neither a suspension bridge (Supension bridges can be very costly) nor a cable stayed one. It is just a beam bridge and these are the cheapest bridge designs you can ever find. Secondly we can't even say that the Niger is very deep or the topography is a mountaneous one that requires complex foundations or towering beams. Additionally, the Niger bridge is just 1.6km. Beam Bridges that surpass this in cost have had to multiply the distance by nothing less than twenty times and cheaper bridges are even far longer. For example, the Dhola Sadiya Bridge, a similar beam bridge in india (a country with labour and construction costs similar to ours), completed in 2017, has a length of 9.15km and a span that is equal to one twin of the 2nd Niger bridge. Now, doing the math, 3.2km of this bridge should be similar in costs to the 1.6km Second Niger Bridge, but things get shockingly funny. This bridge only costs $158 million totally so 3.2km of the bridge should be about $53 million. But here our bridge being made of 'gold' and not reinforced concrete costs $540 millon. Lets drive home the seriousness of this inflation with another example. Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Bridge is under construction in india (Started in 2017, after Second Niger Bridge, and will commissioned in 2021, before Second Niger Bridge) is a six lane bridge(Second Niger bridge is six-lane as well). Now see its peculiarites, Firstly it is a 9.76km suspension bridge (Remember I said, suspension bridges are costly) with 13.24 km of approach roads. Now, the Second Niger Bridge is 1.6km bridge with 10.3km of approach roads. Let me shock you, the Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Bridge total project costs only $699 milllon dollars while its baby brother in Nigeria has a net worth of $1.09bn. Is the Nigerian Government not wonderful?

I have a clue to the reason for all this. Maybe, its because the Nigerian Government is not paying for it, as well as other projects Nigerians are celebrating. Go check the costs. There seems to be an agreement between the Nigerian Government and its Chinese investors to heavily take advantage of the huge Nigerian population and use unreasonable costs to build infrastructure and dupe citizens. If you don't know, these bridges are being tolled, the railways are being paid for by Nigerians. The old bridge will be blocked to major traffic and every driver, transporter, commuter, sheep, goat, cow, anything at all passing that bridge will pay that $1.09bn to the last dime. This goes for the railways as well. Since railways are cheaper to run, the tickets will be hiked and Nigerians will pay the bloated costs. This is daylight robbery.

Cost of cement in nigeria=9$
Cost of cement india= 5$

Just one example of why cost of a project cannot be the same in every country

Nobody is against the bridge. Read the article, costs of construction is bloated and used as a means to extort money. The handlers of that bridge will toll it for a whole 25 years.

Wholesale cost is about $5. So that's untrue. Even with $9, The costs are still over inflated.

Why do you think those Chinese banks are quick to bankroll Nigeria on rail and tolled bridge projects.

God bless the op for making this eye-opening observation.
The wickedness against Igbos in Nigeria, which Buhari has elevated to the zenith is one of the root causes of Nigeria's stagnation and decay.

Abuja/Kaduna monorail was built with federal government money, same with Lagos/Kano that is ongoing, ditto Lagos/Ibadan expressway and Abuja/Kaduna/Kano expressway. What about Kano, Lagos, and P.H airports that were equally rebuilt while Enugu was abandoned. They keep using federal government money or loans from China to develop projects in other parts of the country except Igboland.

Now, when they decided to build the second Niger Bridge, they not only inflated the cost outrageously but for the first time, they turned it into a PPP project where the contractor will have to toll it until they recover there money! Which means in essence, the same bridge that some idiots are claiming we should thank buhari for, is same bridge we will all have to pay for and as if that's not bad enough, they also had to scam us by outrageously padding the cost?! How wicked some people can be!!

Why didn't they do same with federal projects in the North or those in Lagos?

It is this irrational wickedness and oppression against Igbos that continue to make Nnamdi Kanu massively popular. Nnamdi Kanu keeps exposing the madness going on Nigeria, especially against Igbos.

Fvrked up, bastardized and useless country called Nigeria.

Just take a look at the ordinary looking bridge they're building yet they have the mind to outrageously pad the cost like this. Even the existing Niger bridge build over 50 years ago is more sophisticated than that basic bridge their building in 2021.

Bastards in government!!

Stop defending rubbish. Limestone is the major raw material in the production of cement and Nigeria has it in abundance, even calcite too! So why would cement be more expensive in Nigeria than India?

Even if we are to go by your irrational logic, does the price differential in cement justify the massive difference in cost between the bridge in India that is far longer and the one in Nigeria?

These are some of the reasons why even some Igbos that would ordinarily prefer to have a big country can't help giving up on the zoo, the sh1thole that has become a huge embarrassment to Africa and the entire Black race.

Call the goverment to reaveal how much they and the investors are going to profit. The bridge is obviously overpriced. Going by the calculations, in five to six years, the cost of the bridge will be recovered, the remaining years will be for profit.

That morally deficient entity called mannabbgrills (alias Eriggs) will still continue fooling himself that Buhari is holy.

It further proves that mannabbgrills has no honor. He is as morally decayed as they come. Your pretense at sanctity is fake. You are a liar and an ignoble soul. You can use your alternative monicker, Eriggs, to reply, you shameless morally corrupt entity.

No ban can change the fact that you are morally decayed. Stop fooling yourself.

Gowon promised to build the bridge in 1970, Jonathan started it at the cost of 120 billion, Buhari came and suspended it for two years, citing high cost of building the bridge, it is now surprising that the bridge will now cost over 400 billion.

Though I don't understand what you mean by wailing and whether you are referring to me. I'm just pointing out how Chinese banks collaborate with African governments to profit heavily in the name of providing infrastructure. The corruption and high profit margin is what needs to be checkmated. If you want to build infrastructure, good. But don't use it as a means of collaborating to heavily loot your citizens.
