Now do some simple maths with Nigerian annual budget. It is mostly never even up to 80% implemented yearly but let's assume it's fully implemented.

2020 budget was 10.59 trillion Naira or
about 35 billion dollars.

With 200 million population it is only about 52,000 Naira or 175 dollars per citizen, exchange rate changes might make it 100k Naira.

That is peanuts per citizen. Less than 2 million Naira per citizen cannot be anywhere near enough for all the infrastructure, social services etc.

By comparison Nigerians in diaspora remit about 20 billion dollars to Nigeria annually.

We should not continue making the error of assuming we are rich when more and more of our skyrocketing population visibly wallow in poverty. With the social problems associated like unemployment, kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, prostitution staring us in the face.

Thr bulk of that money is for Bubu perquisite of office, why can't they stay home and use that money for developmental purposes if truly they are here to make selfless sacrifice for nation building.

I can imagine what that money will do for an achiever, someone truly commited to nation building and not one here to cater for his old age and cronies.

Your analysis is right. But inspite of the booming population, the country has what it takes to be a truly rich nation. They say diversification is key....and frankly, we have a lot of resources to diversify to. We have streamlined our source of income to just petroleum. What we are getting from petroleum cannot cater for the over 200m citizens. The US population as at 2020 is just 300m+ and they have a strong economy based on tech, healthcare, petroleum, etc. That country has 135 working refineries!

We have everything bro. We're just underutilizing them.

I remember Buhari making a speech as military head of state then. He talked of diversification, self reliance, farming, bla bla bla. Even kids then could hear the hypocrisy of it all. Decades on, same speeches and wishful thinking. No action.
