The problem with NNPC is that it is a government agency, not a private corporation.

As a result, it isn't run for a profit. It survives in part on government subventions, and isn't run profitably. It is also run as a 'welfare ageny'

Nigerian governments past and present know what to do with the NNPC....privatise it...It is because privatisation means complete and total removal of fuel subsides with the concurrent raising of price of fuel that stops this government and has stopped previous governments from privatising NNPC.

PLus Nigerians don't want NNPC to be privatised either...nor do they want markteters to control the price of fuel

1.Nationalisation happened under Obasanjo in the late 1970's. Infact, Nigeria went on a nationalisation spree then...(eg...Union Bank which used to be the UK's Barclays Bank Nigerian subsidary)
2.There was nothing the UK could do. The UK was itself in severe economic crisis for much of the 1970's
3.Denationalisation started in the 1990'S under IBB...continued till 2000's. And most of the former assets went to Nigerian investors...eg Shell became National Oil, then it became Conoil. BP Nigeria became AFRICAN petroleum then Forte Oil...both Nigerian owned in full.
