The Oluwo of Iwo in Osun State, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has described the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the most qualified to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Speaking at the launching of South-West Agenda (SWAGA) in Aurora Event Centre in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday, he said Tinubu is a visionary leader who has all it takes to rule to succeed the president in 2023.

The monarch who berated the lackadaisical attitude of some Yorubas called on sons and daughters of Yorubaland to always rally round their leaders.

He condemned the manner at which the Yorubas were at the forefront of the pull-him-down syndrome that never made the late Awolowo realize his ambition.

“No one is as qualified as Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu who remained a visionary leader and a great achiever. Only a misled son of Yoruba would not support this course.

“Who else has that capacity to run for 2023 poll in Southwest. we should all push him to be greater than Awolowo so that his legacy could go on.

“But during my time, both as a youth and king, we are going to correct the mistake of the past, we are not going to be ungrateful, you can not see a Hausa man castigating their leaders who are billionaires. We need to remove the curse in Yoruba land of castigating and being ungrateful to our leaders who are our heroes. When he was the governor of Lagos State for two terms, he came up with ideas that have brought great development to the state till date. He created wealth in Lagos State,” he said.

The pattern of Tinubu's 2023 game is becoming recognisable

His strategy is to financially induce the obas in Yoruba land (most of whom are fraudsters anyway) to speak up on his behalf and throw their weight behind his candidature.

It's quite easy to reach them since he had a hand in the installation of the younger ones e.g. Oluwo, Ooni, Elegushi etc most of whom became obas within the last ten years or so. Once all these unscrupulous guys (people just like him) give voice to his campaign, it creates the impression that Yorubas are speaking with one voice and that he has the potential to pull the Yoruba nation out of the Nigerian state if the Hausa-Fulani power-brokers deny him his 'right'

He's about to use the threat of secession to force Buhari into keeping his end of the bargain they made in 2015, a bargain made at the expense of the Yoruba people who have since paid its price in blood, sorrow and tears, under the fist of Fulani hegemony. Tinubu in contrast has only grown richer over the past six years the agreement has subsisted, putting his men in charge of key economic portfolios and making numerous shadowy deals with the Fulani puppeteers pulling Buhari's strings from the background. But now that he has realised they have no intention of ceding power to him come 2023, he has devised a new strategy.

But it's a strategy that can lead to a lot of bloodshed if it backfires. And he would have to mend fences with Gani Adams for it to work because majority of these obas he is paying off are just empty barrels who don't even command the respect of their subjects anymore, just like we found out in the case of the Eleko. Their people know they are taking money to say all the nonsense they normally say in the media.

Comparing Awolowo with any living or dead Nigerian poitician is denigrating decimating and miring the memory of the late sage.

Awolowo remains the greatest gift to our polical space in this country. It will take decades for a selfless, think-tank, resourcesful, sacrificial, forward-looking and selfless cultural & political leader like Awolowo to emerge.

Nigeria would by now have be in the league of first-class world countries if the foundation he laid during the independence struggle were to be consolidated in the post independence governanc.

Oluwo should wake up from his deep sleep and retract this ugly statement credited to him.
