Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta was the 7th Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force. He was appointed in 1986 to succeed Etim Inyang and was succeeded by Aliyu Attah in 1990. He was also a National Security Adviser to President of Nigeria Ibrahim Babangida.

May he burn in hell for a hundred years.

The story is more complex than that. IBB actually asked IG Etim Iyang that question as AFRC meeting was ending in October 1986. Gambo was soon appointed as IG and redeployed CP Parry Osayande to Benin. Parry caught Anini in early December 1986. Parry retired as a DIG and became Chair of PSC around 9 years or so ago.

Lesson is local knowledge is important in fighting local crime. I wonder why FG/Police HQ still insist today on sending people with absolutely no link to a place/state to become police CP. Maybe it's just to flex federal power.

Of course, IBB possibly asked any IG, Iyang or Gambo that question at every opportunity.
