WHY IS MAN SO ENDOWED?

God’s statement before creating man in Genesis 1:26 reveals one of the reasons why God made man the way he was made. It is therefore not surprising that after he was created, God blessed him and gave him dominion over all other creation on earth and things in the sea (Genesis 1:28-29). This implies man being endowed with great talents, potentials, powers and abilities were for him to be able to carry out his God-given assignment as God’s coworker. God’s blessings and charges to man reveals that man is God’s ambassador and coworker on earth and not as the owner but to manage the resources as a steward of the owner, Psalm 8:5-8..

However, from the song by the angels in Revelation 4: 11 comes the revelation of the overall reason why God created all things including man "Thou art worthy, Oh Lord, to receive, glory, and honor and power: for thou art created all things and for thy pleasure, they were all well created”. This implies all things including man were created for His pleasure – to give Him pleasure. And what is that which gives Him pleasure? Glorifying Him is! Isaiah 43;7. This implies man was primarily created to glorify God (worship) for everything and in everything – in his walk, works, words and possessions.

Worship is all about the right and acceptable responses of gratitude for all things and in everything we do to God for who He is and His goodness to us. To glorify God is to love Him, acknowledge His goodness and greatness and give Him the glory by thanking and praising Him alone (1 Chronicles 16: 28-29; Isaiah 42;8; 42:5).
The Bible reveals that God did not abandon man to his fate after creating, blessing and giving him dominion over all things. God planted a garden full of very pleasant fruits and other beautiful things and placed man there to tend and care for (Genesis 2:8-15). He gave him commandments to guide his life and stay in the garden, Genesis 2:16-17. When God saw there was no companion for him he caused him to go into a deep sleep and made a compatible companion for him (Genesis 2: 21-25). God also visited them on a daily basis in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:cool. This implies they lived in a personal fellowship with God that involved moral obedience and intimate communion. It also implies they enjoyed the presence of God of which we are told is the fullness of joy, and pleasures forever more, Psalm 16:11.

Now, the question, is if you were in the position of Adam; how would you have responded to God who had created you fearfully and wonderfully and had given you His breath of life in your nostrils, created all things beautifully and He has given to man all things to freely enjoy which included divine blessings, dominion over every living thing whose being and existence he has contributed nothing; a planted beautiful Garden of diverse fruits a very beautiful, conducive environment, ready supply of all things and comfort, a job; made a coworker with God; given a help meet: protection from all dangers and given a hand of fellowship with God who visits every day? Nothing short of grateful responses I am so sure!

Thanksgiving and praises would flow forth naturally from him to His maker as expressions of his gratitude. With the nature of man and by the reason of all that God gave to mankind, living with a thankful heart and offerings of continual thanksgiving and praises should be his lifestyle.
With gratitude Adam would had come before His Presence in awe and wonder at the awesomeness and glorious majesty of God and then with joy and gladness humbly laying prostrated before Him in adoration of His being and person. He would then have offered torrents of thanksgiving and praises from a heart of thankfulness and love to God for all the immeasurable gifts. Thankfulness of the heart stirs up thanksgiving and praises of the mouth.

As each new day ushered in God’s daily benefits, he would go about his daily life with all his thoughts on God and his lips would sing His praises continually in an attitude of love and gratitude and carrying out his duty with all diligence and great rejoicing with grateful thoughts of the great giver and our Lord. Thanksgiving and praises are all about joyful and heartfelt responses for God’s person and His goodness and mercies to us. With a heart full of thankfulness they would have served and worship God with joy and gladness of heart continually. “Man’s true religion is in rendering to God all that is God’s, and in continually acknowledging that everything he is, has, and enjoys is from God” – Andrew Murray.

Doing this would have resulted into a very intimate, cordial love, devotion and obedience because appreciation binds the heart of the beneficiary to the benefactor. Apart from this it would make them know, believe, understand and trust God dearly, be totally dependent on Him, totally committed to Him because appreciation focuses and fixes both eye and heart on the benefactor! Apart from these; man would have experienced a blissful life, full of joy and gladness since gratitude of heart to God is one surest way of being glad always. These are what God wants from us in our fellowship with Him, to love him. be glad in him, know him, believe and understand that He is God and so praise Him (Isaiah 43:10). These are what He greatly delights in and this is the purpose of our being created and this is what worship is all about (Isaiah 43: 7&21).
Adam and Eve did glorify and worshipped God the way expected of them before the fall. The Garden of Eden was a place of joy and gladness, thanksgiving and melody before the fall, Isaiah 51:3.

YOU AND I WERE CREATED TO GLORIFY GOD. SO IN WHAT WAYS HAVE YOU GLORIFIED HIM TODAY?

GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I.
