There is a lot of fuss around having connections for jobs in Nigeria. The common man feels left out when jobs in places like the central bank of Nigeria, NNPC, NSIA, FIRS, and PPPRA are only reserved for the children and associates of the big men and women in the children.

Of course, this is happening everyday and Nigerians are powerless to stop it because those benefitting from the dysfunction will do anything to maintain the status quo.

However, it is also good to realize that despite the fact that you may have no one in your family who can help you secure jobs in any of the aforementioned offices, the fourth industrial revolution has made it possible for the common man to have a voice.

The internet, especially social media platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn are great resources for the common man. How?

On Twitter, there are so many people who are experts at providing relevant and timely information on opportunities for academic relocation. If you are a young Nigerian, take advantage of such information, apply for scholarships abroad and relocate, study and boost your employability in better countries. Channel all the anger you feel for the big men and women of Nigeria who have refused to allow the system work for everybody towards using these resources to create a better life for yourself.

You can also leverage the relationships your parents, relatives or friends have with some big men and women. For instance, if your uncle or aunt is friends with a top level government appointee, try to convince him/her to help you secure a job through that friend.

For those of you who are very active in popular churches, take advantage of the opportunity to get close to the big men and women in your church and pressure them to help you get a good job.

But before you approach them, make sure your CV is in order and you have relevant skills for the position you are aiming at. If your CV is in good shape and you have great skills, they will be convinced to help you.

Use the anger you feel at the current state of your country, to pursue a better life for yourself. Be intentional.
