|Whatsapp Rolls Out Additional Security Feature For Web And Desktop Versions by Yinksy09(m): 9:46am On Jan 28|
Popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp today announced that it has started to roll out a new security feature for WhatsApp Web and Desktop: face and fingerprint unlock when linking devices.
The Facebook owned company wants WhatsApp Web and desktop to be just as robust as the mobile apps so people can communicate privately and securely, in whatever way is best for them.
In order to link WhatsApp Web or Desktop to your WhatsApp account you will now be asked to use your face or fingerprint unlock on your phone, before scanning a QR code from the phone to link your device.
This builds on WhatsApp existing security measures today, which pops up a notice in your phone whenever a Web/Desktop login occurs, and the ability to unlink devices from your phone at any time.
The face and fingerprint authentication takes place on your device in a privacy preserving manner – by design, WhatsApp does not see your face or fingerprint data.
