Good to see private individuals setting up their own RUGA. RUGA is still the one and only answer, government or private. Confine animals to private breeding grounds and ranches and feed your animals on your own ranch just like K1. Too bad our tribal and bigoted national character killed RUGA, a very brilliant idea. 4 Likes |

I think south westerners will be successful in fighting the menace of herdsmen if their government and elites can go fully into modern ranching and commercial abbatoir. Doing the aforementioned will demarket the patronage currently being enjoyed by the Fulanis. We can't dispute the truth that beef consumption is a daily need and it is a business largely monopolised by these Fulanis. I believe commercial ranching will create job opportunities, fight insecurities, discourage herders' movement, increase IGR and give our agricultural sector a big facelift. Imagine if a particular state in the SW can have about 120 ranches. It will send these traditional Fulanis out of business in that part of the country and economically propel them to embrace the modern way. 6 Likes |

Praxis758: Especially considering the fact that the SW consume more beef and animal products than the rest of the country, they have the land, human and capital resources to grow food and raise animals. 6 Likes |

Yet, the Fulani herdsmen that have been in The business for decades find it hard to have their own ranch.. Except if they have another mission |

That's is way to go but the fulani prefer to kill people, kidnap, rape and destroy farms because of cows that should have been in ranches. 1 Like |

Guess the marauders and killers from Futa Jallon Plateau can see that cattle ranching is ideal & feasible even against their disguising & deceptive ethnic supremacist agenda in the name of open grazing? |

plaindealer: In a capitalism there shouldnt be anything like government RUGA, cow rearing is a private business and government has no business in allocating people land for private business Besides, when are we going to have RUGA for piggery, RUGA for aquaculture, RUGA for Snail farming, RUGA for poultry farming. 4 Likes |
Re: Fuji Artist K1 Shows Off His Cattle Ranch by aribisala0(m): 6:04am On Jan 30, 2021 |
Ttalk:There is nothing wrong in government doing that Remember that "government" exists at state and local government levels Government can allocate land for palm oil, plantations, cocoa plantations, Housing , etc if that is i the common interest so government in Zamfara can allocate land tor RUGA nothing wrong with that. Just like government in Akwa Ibom can do the same for palm oil or Ondo do the same for cocoa or as Lagos State said yesterday they will provide land to investors for housing/building developers |

Ttalk: How many private investors are rushing to invest in livestock trade or ranching? How many? It's not the kind of business many Nigerians are willing to explore so at this point it really doesn't matter, government or private. When RUGA was introduced, you and many Nigerians did not read the plan or even pay attention to what's written on the paper, you just condemn the whole plan based on baseless sentiments, emotions and tribal reasonings. There was no plan to take your land or allocate your land, they simply asked state governments to produce land and the FG will give them money to set up animal husbandry businesses from breeding and raising livestock to meet processing and so on. The states can hire local labor to run the operation, create jobs and make money, not necessarily settling Fulani people on your land. Besides, when are we going to have RUGA for piggery, RUGA for aquaculture, RUGA for Snail farming, RUGA for poultry farming. RUGA is for animal husbandry including pigs, chicken, goats, turkey and so on, what you raise and sell on your ranch is your problem, there's no RUGA stipulation stating what you can or can not raise on your RUGA ranch. Instead of reading the plan, paranoid and tribalistic Nigerians made up their own fake stories and mischaracterized the whole plan. 1 Like |

plaindealer: Can you provide the proposed RUGA document and let's analyse it. There are farm settlements area all over the country that are left in shambles, but government want more land specifically for grazing purpose when government has no shares in the business Why creating a RUGA school, RUGA hospital, RUGA electricity just to satisfy an ethic group within a heterogenous entity like Nigeria. I would be very happy if you can bring the document up here and let's discuss the trash government is trying to sell to Nigerians 2 Likes |

plaindealer: Oga ruga was a ploy to give Fulani herdsmen and their cows ownership to lands that didn't belong to them. Don't come ndbe talking rubbish of something you don't know. When hv you ever heard or seen people openly graze pigs, goats, or chicken like the Fulani do with cows? Which government uses its power to secure land for private businesses. If Fulani wants land let them negotiate with the private owner of a piece of land, buy it or rent it and put his cows there just like a poultry farmer will do. Stop defending rubbish. 1 Like 1 Share |

helinues: That's because they know more about ranching than most people in Nigeria. They saw the ranches that were set up in the 1940s, '50s and '60s and they saw those ranches fail. That's why they believe that ranching does not work. (Are there any cows in Obudu Cattle Ranch?) I believe ranching is the solution, but first we need to address the problems of ranching, that is, the problems that made all those ranches that were set up in the 1940s, '50s and '60s to fail. 1 Like |

naptu2: What are the problems with ranching? The only problem I see is as long as beef from animals free range are in the market, beef from animals from ranches can't compete on price. |

Fulani people can build ranch, but they just don't want to do it because they are using this their cattle rearing nonsense to grab lands illegally and expand their territories. 1 Like |

naptu2:is there anything that the Nigerian government built in the 1950s and 1960s that are still in good condition today The problem is not ranching, the problem is with Nigeria and their corrupt government/politicians who loot money meant to maintain government establishments. Nigerians as a whole also lack maintenance culture. That's why you will see a beautifully constructed house today, few years later that house becomes a graveyard. Fulani herdsmen have no other option than to start investing in private ranching. My family have operated and owned poultry farms for decades, I saw them while growing up and they are still existing. We invested in poultry houses and buy ration or feed to feed the poultries, we don't move them from one persons house to house disturbing their peace. Fulani's should learn to invest in their business. The world has advanced, we cannot continue like this or else many more communities will pickup arms against Fulani herdsmen and trust me Nigerian security is already overstretched and cannot defend them in all parts of Nigeria. They need to improve and embrace peace and also respect their host communities |

naptu2:There's a book written by a foreign author years ago that once documented the failings and issues with the Nigerian ranches. Tse Tse fly, diseases were one of them. Then finance and a lack of uptake with milk from the cows saw very little margins gained. I believe they could study from places like Kenya where they have successfully replicated ranches and in house, we have Shonga farms in Kwara state which has a ranch too. |
