We are all aware of the regular white yam and the tasty meals we can make with it; pounded yam, yam and egg, yam porridge, and the other yummy delicacies you may know. There is also no doubt that many of us are aware that there are types of yam aside from the regular white yam. But the reality is that these varieties are not common in many Nigerian homes.

The water yam is one of the other varieties of yam in existence, and there are tasty traditional meals you can make with this yam and enjoy with your family and friends.

Ojojo

Often referred to as yam fritters in the English language, Ojojo is a local delicacy among the Yoruba tribe made with grated water yam. It can be cooked to look like a puff-puff and enjoyed as a snack. But in most Nigerian homes, ojojo is made as a replacement for bean cake. And like bean cake, it is equally enjoyed with pap, garri or bread.

Ojojo is very simple to make. And the process is also very similar to how you make your bean cake. But unlike the bean cake paste, your water yam should not be smoothly ground, and grating the yam is highly recommended over blending it. You can easily access this yummy recipe on the internet and make something different for yourself and your loved ones.
