It is one thing to be thankful and it is another thing to express our thankfulness to our benefactor for their kindness or gift to us. Being thankful and not expressing it does no one any good, but being thankful and expressing it does wonders. The act of showing or expressing our gratitude to our benefactor is known as appreciation or being grateful. To show someone appreciation involves knowing/ recognizing and acknowledging the person as the giver or benefactor. Appreciation is expressed in our words, actions or deeds. The most common way is in words - verbally. The most commonly used English word for appreciation is the word “thank you.” Thank you is one of the shortest sentences, yet one of the most powerful words spoken among humanity. It is a short phrase that leads to a better life. It is a natural verbal response/expression of gratitude to someone. It implies it is something one has to say except one is dumb, even the dumb utters it in their own special way. It is a word used to express our gratitude/gratefulness or appreciation to someone that has done us a favor, for past, present and future promises. Naturally, it is something said with great joy and humility towards the giver.

Being appreciated is one thing that all humans desire; yes, we like and enjoy being appreciated even when we tell those who appreciated us “don’t mention it!” Lack of appreciation when it should be given demoralizes. It is responsible for the many troubles between married couples, children and parents, employees and employers and in all forms of relationship.

When we appreciate those that deserve it, it performs great wonders. It relieves tensed nerves; brings a smile to a frowning face; gladness to a heavy heart and strengthens tiring hands. It binds the heart of the giver and receiver closer. Appreciation brings out the best of the one so appreciated. It encourages the appreciated to do more. It is morally right to always show appreciation to our benefactors for every gift received and every act of kindness no matter how small.

List ten people that you appreciate in your life, call or send text messages to them telling them how much you appreciate them and thank them for their help and assistance.
