First civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, has passed away in the early hours of Thursday at 91.

Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced his death on Thursday afternoon via his Twitter page.

Sanwo-Olu said;

“With gratitude to God for a worthy life well spent in the service of Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity, I announce the death of a venerable statesman, outstanding politician, public administrator and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande.”

Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, a former journalistC became governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983.

He later served as Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993–98).

R.I.P to the great man. Jakande schools and Jakande estates still resonates up until today around Lagos. They say all politicians, past and present, are thiefs but very few can say same of Baba.

Mobalaji Johnson and Lateef Jakande gone within a space of few months.

I hope politicians left behind worries more about their place in history rather than be grabbing all the monies, all the positions and the braggings in Lagos and be selling their own people just because of power. It will all end someday.
