Igbo leaders visit National Assembly, demand creation of new southeast state.

Some Igbo leaders led by Chief John Nwodo, former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Wednesday, February 10 visited the National Assembly to demand the creation of another southeast state from Enugu. Nwodo met with all the key officials in the National Assembly to push for the new state which he called 'Adada' adding it was approved at the 2014 national conference

The agitation for another state in the southeast region of Nigeria seems to have been reactivated

- A former leader of the influential Ohanaeze Ndigbo is leading the aspiration which was approved in the 2014 national conference

- The agitation has now been taken to the National Assembly for it to get a legal backing and support of the legislature.


Some Igbo leaders led by Chief John Nwodo, former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Wednesday, February 10 visited the National Assembly to demand the creation of another southeast state from Enugu.

Nwodo met with all the key officials in the National Assembly to push for the new state which he called 'Adada' adding it was approved at the 2014 national conference.

Responding to the demand during a meeting with the delegation, Senate President Ahmad Lawan said it is a legitimate agitation.


Cable quoted him as saying;

“It is a constitutional and legitimate agitation.”
In a related development, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has decried the exclusion of southeast military personnel in the recent service chiefs appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The socio-cultural group made its stance known in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, and seen by Legit.ng.

Quoting the president-general of Ohanaeze, George Obiozor, the statement said:

“One way of ensuring compliance with the federal character provision of the Nigerian constitution is to observe the distribution of important and vital offices of the federal government in accordance with the zonal structure.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo hopes and believes that Mr. President in continuation of appointments in this sector would consider the southeast zone.”

South East deserve additional 1 and surely that is Adada state.

I thought the agreement by the national Assembly back then was that Enugu Federal allocation will be divided into two, one for Enugu, one for Adada.. And I wonder which governor will agree.

Obasanjo around 2006 wanted to give SE an extra State to make the Federation more balanced
the SE leaders fought over the location of the proposed State until Obasanjo left Office
I hope they have learnt their lesson after 15 years delay because Buhari may not be that Generous.

Stupid selfish talk, last time I checked Anioma is in delta state, a South South state, when a state is needed in South South Anioma should come up, we're talking of extra state for South East and nobody de hold Anioma people from going to national assembly to demand same, nonsense
