EBSU Management Apologises To Students, Says The Unfortunate Incident Won't Happen Again

By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki

The Management of Ebonyi State University, EBSU, has finally apologised to its students, assuring that the "unfortunate incident" that led to the stampede and fainting of about five students won't happen again.

In a statement made available to IGBERE TV by
Patrick Itumo, Public Relations Officer, said

The management regrets the inconveniences caused by the technical hitches during the said examination which led to delays and crowding of the center.

He, however, maintained that no life was lost and thanked the Governor David Nweze Umahi who brought the situation under control.

The statement reads,

"The Management of Ebonyi State University has noted with concern, the unfortunate incident which took place during the GST examinations on Wednesday, February 10, 2021."

"Management regrets the inconveniences caused by the technical hitches during the said examination which led to delays and crowding of the center.. However, we are grateful to God that no live was lost in the process.

The university Authorities has noted the issues raised by the students and assures all concerned that they will be addressed as soon as possible."

"We equally regret the subsequent protests by students of the university who barricaded the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway and obstructed vehicular movements for several hours. EBSU management offers our unreserved and deep apologies to the general public and travelers who were affected in one way or the other."

"Management deeply appreciates the prompt intervention of the state Governor, His Excellency, Engr, Chief David Umahi, through the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, who brought the situation under control. We equally thank the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala: the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima and the Commissioner for Border peace and Internal Security, Stanley Okoro Emegha for their initial rapid response.

We are also grateful to the Security Agencies, the Director of State Security Services, Ebonyi state Command as well as the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Garba Aliyu and his officers and men for their mature and civilized conduct during the protest.
May God Bless you all, as we make a solemn promise to serve you better."

After lives have been lost. Some of those in the management of this school are those bashing the president everyday that he is incompetent in handling the affairs of the entire country. But look at, just to manage a state University, how difficult it is for them. The only thing they have to offer is apology after their actions have led to loss of many lives.

Internet Power
It's good the power of the internet has made it impossible for some incompetence not to be swept under the carpet like the way it has been in the past.

Very ineffective governance and administrative culture. But this is not Nnamdi Kanu's problem. Now he wouldn't mobilize his touts to burn down the school. He is more concerned with becoming a "supreme leader."

Local fool.

God bless you for reading my post.

Ways people die in Nigeria of today is so pathetic before you read through 2 or 3 post this days you will definitely see killing that can be avoided somewhere in the country. This has made most people see death as normal thing. sad

if all these people knew that school is not the way anymore, we've left that industrial age mentality of school creating workers, things have changed. The world has moved on

The write up used more space and time mentioning and greeting politicians leaving fewer space and time for the students who are the real victims. You can clearly see what we focus on as a nation.
