Rector commends President Buhari's honour on MAPOLY student

The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, has described as encouraging and reward for hardwork of lecturers of the Polytechnic the award of honour bestowed on a former student of the institution by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dr. Odedeji disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving the recipient of the President's NYSC Honour, Miss Seriki Adetutu Ifeoluwa in his office.

Miss Seriki was among the 110 ex-NYSC members honoured by President Muhammadu Buhari with automatic employment last week.

The Rector noted that the honour brought great relief to the management of the institution, saying the polytechnic has fulfilled the mandate of producing self-reliance students with moral and value.

He emphasized that, education without moral value to the people remain irrelevant.

He urged other students of the institution to emulate Miss Seriki Adetutu for representing the institution at the national level.

"This is a tonic that has brought great relief to our souls. It's a well deserved honour. You have demonstrated that you're kind.

"It is not only reading and writing ability that makes you unique and identified, there are other side of it which is moral and behavioral.

"Education will not be relevant if it doesn't have value to the people, members of the society to make them better.

"You have represented MAPOLY excellently well and you're a role model. You have fulfilled our mandate of producing total useful students.

"Others should emulate you. Our labour not in vain. Despite salary not being paid for six months, our efforts is not in vain after all."

Speaking earlier, Miss Seriki Adetutu expressed delight in receiving the honour from President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as great honour for her family.

She urged the youths to stop lamenting and contribute their quota to the development of their immediate communities for a better society.

She therefore enjoined other students to be optimistic of a better Nigeria with dedication, hardwork and determination to excel in all strata of life.

"I feel excited and a great privilege to part of the awardees. It's a great honour for me and my family.

"The youths should stop complaining that the country is not good, they should look for ways of improving the country by contributing their quota to the advancement of the nation."

Miss Seriki, an ex-students of Moshood Abiola polytechnic from Department of Computer Science was honoured for her personal Community Development Projects which are; digging of modern deep well in Alakia Oke Elewa primary school, mending of collapsed part of the primary school fence, clothing and giving out of school sandals to 30 Indigent pupils of IMG primary 1 and 2, fixing of brand new gate for her PPA and donation of food items and toiletries to Jesus Children orphanage home.
