The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Employability (CEE) Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike organized a career summit for the final year students of the University. The event which held on Saturday 27th February, 2021 at the Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium of the University had in attendance seasoned speakers and some members of the University Management. The summit is part of its numerous activities toward developing entrepreneurship practice and employability skills among students which will give them significant advantage in the competitive market.

In his opening remark, the Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. George C. Mbaeyi noted that the essence of the career summit was to give the final year students a last dose of what they need to be highly competitive in the labour market as self-employed, employers of labour or employees who are highly sought-after. He also noted that this is one of the core mandates of the centre, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday O. Elom, is seriously committed in driving entrepreneurship and employability skills among AE-FUNAI students as captured in his Inaugural Speech to the University Senate on Monday, February 15, 2021.

Dr. Makuachukwu Ojide who is the Acting Director of Research and Development spoke on development of soft skills with focus on creating entrepreneurship consciousness among the participants. He also took time to teach the students what it takes to develop an award-winning curriculum vitae (CV) and how to search for gainful employment, respond promptly to job adverts as well as interview skills.

A digital skill trainer, Mr. Victor Ejims, who also is a Corporate Consultant based in Enugu, spoke on what it takes to experience fulfilling and rewarding compulsory one-year youth service (NYSC). He exposed the secret on how to win State and National awards as a youth corp member. The students also used the opportunity to learn all the processes involved in preparing and going for the national youth service.

The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Chukwuunonso E. C. C. Ejike while making his speech encouraged the students to advance and upgrade their academic career, urging them to make the best of any post graduate study they may embark on in the future. He further used the opportunity to explain the recent developments and opportunities of postgraduate studies in AE-FUNAI.

Earlier, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Dennis Akoh, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday O. Elom gave a fatherly word of wisdom and encouragement to the participants. He expressed satisfaction with the summit and also appreciated the doggedness and maturity of the students in the midst of a very busy semester.

On behalf of the students, Opeke Uchenna Clinton thanked the management of the University and CEE for such a rewarding and timely event. The students actually asked for more of such events.
