Tonyewarri: And your knowledge tells you in a geographical region like Nigeria, Delta place is a viable location to invest such enormous capital? You really are vast in solar energy. Same reason your kind had to build a refinery in the North while the raw material it's in the South. And if you so much knowledgeable about all you claim to know, you should know that considering "wear and tear" the infrastructure will suffer to great extent. I think listed are basics you should know about what you claim to know. Optimal efficiency and durability should be your watch in making decisions for such enormous infrastructure. |

Osamagioghowewi: When we were reliant on thermal energy for electricity, some said just like u are saying: "We have enough gas to power our electricity needs". D explanation to your question can be found in d govts inability to use gas to solve d electricity problems. If with all d thermal& gas infrastructure we are still were we are, what makes u think solar will make any difference with zero infrastructure? |

HacheNoire:First, My kind? You can't make a point without trying to add slur? Do you know me? What do you mean by "your kind"? Secondly, because it is best to build it in the north does not mean it is not viable to build it down south. Yes I'm aware about all you were trying to say, the reason for me asking is to get your understanding about the viability of the project. Is it possible in the south, yes. Is it sustainable, yes. Considering the weather condition in the south, is it a viable project? The answer is still yes. If you understand feasibility study you would know that it is a feasible project both north and south. Tonyewarri: Solar energy is viable and sustainable anywhere. The point remains that, As a mega infrastructure with regards to Nigeria's power constrains and geography, it's is outrightly stupid to situate such in a state like Delta. As I mentioned in my previous comment, it won't fall in first 10 choices. Beating a glaring point that should be known to all could annoying. And taking time to explain dynamics of my hat should be an ABC is frustrating. A 200MW solar station is far more feasible, sustainable, with assured and guaranteed optimal efficiency in numerous choice terrains all over the country. Nigeria should not be gambling about power at this point, it should be a transparent course with sole aim. |

hopexter: Haba! That’s not fair. Granted that upon placing the order, the manufacturer will proceed with manufacturing the equipments. If we aggregate production and delivery date, it should take approximately four months. Clearing should take approximately one month to clear and the things are carried to the site. Do not forget that government bureaucracies will commence. If the same government remains in power the job will commence after all due considerations. If another government takes over, then we will hear “abandoned in the warehouse”. But if the things remain as they were at the signing of the contract, it should take not more than one or two months to install and then connect to areas. 1 Like |

HacheNoire: Talking about the refineries in the north. At first they were considered economic wastes. If we put the issues bedeviling the refineries in perspective, we cannot but conclude that the problem with the refineries is the failure of all governments over the years. Next to that is the issue of embezzlement and corruption. With the discovery of oil in the north, it is sincerely hoped that this government can do something about Kaduna refinery, to get it working. “Durability” with respect to solar power depends on the government agents who do the negotiations with the manufacturers. If the right equipments are purchased with good technical assistance from, then the equipments will surely serve their purposes over the years. |

LastProphet: Stating facts in terms of the largest in WA is just facts, not something for you to rant and wail over and the fact that the whole of Heathrow consumes more than 200MW doesn't mean the 200MW in Nigeria can not make any difference in Nigeria, it doesn't mean 200MW won't power homes, businesses in Nigeria or get us 200mw closer to self sufficiency. When they don't do anything positive to benefit you, you cry, moan, complain and shout and when they finally do something positive to benefit you, you still cry, moan, complain, trach and negate it. Look in the mirror before calling black people stupid because your post sounds extremely stupidd and pointless.. 1 Like |

RuddyFusion:And enough gasses being flared that can be tapped to generate up to 2,000 megawatts which is better than this space consuming so-called solar energy. I've never seen a lasting solar installation in Nigeria, I don't think this will be an Exception. I'm talking about cases of 4 days rainfall and cloudy weather, do they have UPS systems to offset the uneven sunshine? What about in the night? How long can their batteries last? Even the west is not so fanatical about solar energy, same reason solar cars are obsolete. Nuclear energy is the future, That's the real meaning of development. |

Re: Nigeria To Construct 200MW Solar Farm In Delta, Largest In West Africa by Poloyanabo2(m): 5:56pm On Feb 18, 2021 |
RuddyFusion:To me solar energy is not development, the west majorly relies on Nuclear energy and Gas turbines and sells solar energy to us... Foolishly our leaders will accept it as development not knowing it's same thing as giving leftovers to a poor man. Solar power can't serve our energy needs as a country. But as usual they're after the money they can loot. |

plaindealer: Is not everyone that corrects stewpidity is ipob or wailer or anything you call it these days. Check my past posts to verify. Why you are stewpid is that you failed to investigate whether 200MW in a country of 200 million foools you inclusive, was worth celebrating or not. Next time don't you ever deify a silly 200mw to the point of touting it in front of your west Africa neighbors, south Africa with less than 50m people has been doing over 45,000MW for a long time and you with 4 times their population is battling with 5,000? Why I'm insulting your type is because it's this kind of stewpid narrative that has spurned the false notion of Nigeria being one rich country meanwhile we have been among the poorest right from long ago. Is why a whole region still has graduates today who attend university and still come out to produce 29 children as that proud buffoon of a senator all because they assume Nigeria is rich. Good bye |

GodisFirst: I hear what you're saying; yes the North is ideal for solar; yes we need more power; and yes there's so much potential in the gas that's being flared, but that's another sad story altogether. Nonetheless, people are forgetting that temperate countries like Germany, China, Japan, USA, etc have solar installed in places that receive much less sunlight than Delta. It's true they will decay due to the rain, but that hasn't stopped Shanghai, Houston, Tokyo, Seattle, Frankfurt, London from installing them, and these are rainy cities with a lot of industrial activity. We need all the power we can get, 200MW in that community in Delta is much more than what they get now (which is zero). The last few projects have been sited in the North, so it's good to distribute these thigs. My only regret is that government - once again - is not supporting Nigerian companies or agencies to make this technology. The money would be much better used to encourage businesses to create solar panels and batteries. For crying out loud we even have two government agencies that they could have tapped. NASENI in Karshi, Abuja is tasked with making panels, and there's even a pilot program. ELDI (electronics development institute, part of NASENI, situated in Awka) is tasked with building electronics like charging controllers, lights, transformers. I've been to their offices and was deeply impressed with their capabilities, the bright engineers, and the products they've made on limited budget. We have Cutex wires made in Nigeria (and could ask them to make thicker wires for DC), we have poles, and any other structures needed made here too. For batteries, they could have consulted with Ibeto. So it baffles me why this contract was not issued locally. We're doing yet another importation project that enriches foreign companies and their workers... and denies us the opportunity to develop our own tech. 1 Like |

LastProphet: You are very stupid and ignorant. 200 MW is an impressive output for a solar plant. And it is enough to power tens of thousands of homes, if not hundreds of thousands. Not sure what rubbish you're talking about ''Heathrow Airport'', or what makes that relevant to powering peoples' homes in Nigeria.
