The federal government has maintained that there is nothing wrong in dialoguing with bandits.

Last Wednesday, gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the Government Science College (GSC) Kagara, Rafi LGA of Niger state, and kidnapped several students, members of staff, and some members of their families.

Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger, had noted that his government is doing everything to rescue the victims, including facilitating negotiations with the bandits.

While speaking during a radio programme monitored by NAN on Sunday, Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, responded to Nigerians who had spoken against the strategy of dialoguing with criminals.

Lai stated that nothing is wrong in dialoguing with bandits, as long as the ultimate objective is to make peace.

“After war, people still sit to dialogue. So if some people have taken it upon themselves to visit these people so that they can embrace peace, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that,” the minister explained.

Speaking further, he noted that the federal government will not pay any ransom to secure the release of abductees of GSC Kagara.

He also denied that ransom was paid to secure the release of over 300 children abducted in Kankara, Katsina state.

On the herders-farmers crisis in parts of the country, Lai said the government is taking steps to address it.

He said the steps include plans for intensive cattle-rearing to ensure that cattle rearing and crop farming don’t conflict.

Sure, any means of achieving lasting peace is OK. It's just that most Nigerians have lost confidence in this Government due to several cases of betrayal of trust. Based on what Government has been doing, most Nigerians have learned to take everything from the Government with a pinch of salt. To say it as it is, MOST NON-FULANI Nigerians feel that Buhari is working with the bandits behind the scene.

Otherwise, let Lai Muhammad tell us why Fulani herders have been sacking Nigerians from their homes, raping, kidnapping, killing, and threatening them openly for 6 years across the length and breadth of the country, BUT THE HERDERS ARE NEVER EVER BROUGHT TO BOOK. Instead, the Government always rushes to act against anyone opposing the bandits. If ever the Government is doing anything about the bandits, it's ALWAYS to treat them softly and kingly (as in this case of dialoguing with them or the alleged cases of paying them huge ransoms from the state coffers - which amounts to arming them further).

Everything is wrong; says the voice of reason!

Yes, after war, you dialogue because both sides are agrieved, but why dialogue with rogues that you created deliberately? We understand you're using them to launder money, we understand their kidnaps in the north are mostly staged, but do your fake negotiation with respect to the other Nigerians who are real victims undecided

Isn't banditry criminal any longer ?

Why not extend same courtesy to armed robbers, cultists, ritualists , rapist, pen robbers, thieves etc and criminalize peaceful protesters and agtitators since the ultimate objective is to make peace

These guys are seriously cashing out with this insecurity stuff. Southerners are in a very deep sleep, when they eventually wake up, the North would have f*cked them right, left, center, back and front.

Lai Mohammed is right.
There is nothing wrong in dialoging with Bandits.
Our Sheikh is doing it to foster peace, why won't our pastors do the same?

Jesus interacted and feasted with the people who were the problems of his land...why won't pastors do the same?

I don't see why Apostle Suleiman has not intervened and mediated in the continued cult beef amongst Aiyes, Eiyes and Vikings confraternity that has persisted in Benin, Ekpoma and Auchi.

Why hasn't Adeboye gone to Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu to appeal to all the organ-hunters and skullminers to stop ritual killing?

Why hasn't Father Mbaka helped Umuleri and Aguleri define their boundaries and put an end to an almost ancestral long conflict?

When will Pastor Lazarus Muoka pray so that Hanty Susu will give us a baby even half as cute as herself and her delectable husband?

Why hasn't Pastor Chris gone to appeal to Lola to allow peace reign so that PSquare can come back as one?

Why?
Why?
Why?

It starts with our religious leaders.
If bandits will listen to a Sheikh, skullminers will listen to a G.O.

Does the Nigeria Constitution Support dialoguing with bandits who are killers and kidnappers
I blame the soldiers would keep arresting and handing over to Government, instead of killing them.

Useless people, did u dialogue with ESN before sending military fighter jets and soldiers to kill them ,yet they only crime is to insist in the protection of her territory from the wickedness of fulani herders who came to the south to kill and destroy, but u will dialogue even without a real fight with known terrorists and criminals whose stock in trade is to kidnap, murder and to terrorize innocent civilians,am sorry for your cluelessness,
