Some drinks may be beneficial or not recommended for blood sugar and diabetes. While water, milk, tea, a little coffee, and a little fruit juice can be good for staying healthy, sodas and sugary juices are the worst drinks for people with diabetes because they increase different risks for the body.

The soda

Is coffee good or bad for insulin resistance? Do diet sodas make you gain weight? It's not easy to choose a drink when you have diabetes. The various studies about sugar, juice, milk and hot drinks may even bring more doubts than answers. If you are lost with the drink menu at a cafe, here is some information that can help you make the best decision for your health.

The water
Maintaining proper hydration with water can help you control blood sugar levels, according to a study cited by Best Health Mag. This is due to a hormone called vasopressin, which increases when a person is dehydrated, and which stimulates the liver to make more sugar. If you are not used to drinking water, have a drink before each meal.

Milk

Drinking milk regularly helps provide calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamin D to the body. Semi-skimmed milk can also help lower blood pressure, which is important for people with diabetes. Drink milk with a meal to help the body support the natural increase in blood sugar that occurs when we eat carbohydrates.

Tea
Low in calories, lots of flavor and a ton of antioxidants ... tea is known for its benefits, it's not for nothing. A Chinese study has shown that black tea contains very high levels of polysaccharides, which slow down the absorption of sugar in the blood, hence its interest in people with diabetes. Tea can also help reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. But beware of the pitfalls: no sweet iced teas, no added sugar, and no whole milk.

Coffee
Some studies suggest that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. An acid in this drink appears to slow the absorption of glucose into the blood. But other research also indicates that coffee can raise blood sugar. So there is no certainty at this time, it all depends on how it affects each individual's blood sugar.

Diet soda

As with coffee, different studies have given mixed results about the effects of diet sodas in people with diabetes. There is only one thing that everyone agrees: a lighter version in terms of sugar is certainly better for your health than its classic version. If you are used to drinking soda, then it would be safer to choose diet soda instead.

If you are used to drinking soda, reduce your intake by drinking a smaller amount gradually. Regular consumption of fruit juices made from concentrate, which therefore contain added sugars, would also be associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Opt instead for whole fruit, a little freshly squeezed fruit juice, or low-salt vegetable juices.
