Scarcity: Fuel Queues Return In Abuja by JosEast(m): 7:18am On Feb 28, 2021 |
Queues on Saturday surfaced at some petrol filling stations in Abuja and its environs as marketers refused to load from depots due “to uncertainty in fuel price regime.” Daily Trust observed apart from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) retail stations and some major marketers, many of the independent marketers did not open. Because of this, there were long queues at the few petrol stations selling to customers. At an NNPC retail outlet at Central Area in the nation’s capital, motorists were seen struggling to buy the product which sold at N162 per litre. The situation was the same at A.A. Rano at Jabi where the premium motor spirit went for N163 per litre. The president of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Okonkwo, declined to comment on the cause of scarcity, but an executive member of the association attributed the situation to anxiety over price of fuel. Down stream deregulation The executive, who pleaded anonymity, said IPMAN refused to load at the depots because they wanted the NNPC to come clean on deregulation. The deregulation of petroleum downstream and pump price increase have generated conflict between the Government and Labor for close to two decades. Since 2004 when the Federal Government started the policy of selling the crude oil earmarked for local refining/consumption at international price, the landing price of petroleum products has been higher than the regulated pump price of petroleum products. The old system where crude oil earmarked for local refining/consumption was sold to the NNPC at a subsidized rate is able to take care of price differential between landing cost and regulated pump price. With the new policy, a system of subsidy payment was introduced to take care of the price differential. But over time, the subsidy system became cumbersome and government found it unsustainable. https://dailytrust.com/scarcity-fuel-queues-return-in-abuja |

The govt drills and exports Crude and den imports petroleum products becos out refineries are dead. The south cannot cut supply of petrol to the North becos no b d south dey import am, na govt. Except U want the south to stop the govt which we all know how dat will end |

The executive, who pleaded anonymity, said IPMAN refused to load at the depots because they wanted the NNPC to come clean on deregulation. That's the main issue right there. For over two decades, marketers have been selling at a loss in the name of government price fixing. The marketers want NNPC to stop fxing prices of petrol. They want to fix the price. |

ONLY WAY TO END THIS MESS...is simple...government should stop fixing the price of fuel Once they do that, prices would go up, but there would be enough profit...attracting more investment in refineries, meaning more production, and less reliance on imported fuel....meaning a lower price for fuel by competition. |

Nbotee: Zombie. All petrol tank farms are located in the south especially lagos state. Except ofcourse the north now have an access to the seas. No tanker will be allowed to lift petrol to the north. It's that simple 2 Likes |

OOzz: Sometimes some of U allow ur anus to do the thinking instead of ur brains.. Mayb it's becos d head is full of shit.. The tank farms are owned by the GOVT and other marketers who are doing their businesses. Are the yams, cattles and others which were blocked from going south owned by the govt?? How hard is dat to understand?? |

Re: Scarcity: Fuel Queues Return In Abuja by Nobody: 12:44pm On Feb 28, 2021 |
7lives: Yes, because I know at the end of the day, it would make Dangote and other refinereis on ground profitable...and also reduce the impact subsidy and under recovery have on our scarce revenues from oil...and long term, people will build more refienreis here to take advantage of the profits to be made...leading to competition and prices falling. It happened with GSM. Once upon a time, a sim package from what is now Airtel cost as much as N10000. That same 'package' costs N1000 or less. The GSM companies took our money and used it to build the IT network we have today...something we won't have had if Obasanjo had listened to people calling on him to stop the GSM companies from exploiting us. |

thebosstrevor1: I know u re not bright at all, but let me explain something to u. During the time of crisis, no one cares who owns what; everything is fair game. We will simply chase u, the govt and Dangote back to the desert and then nationalise those assets. It's that simple. U can't eat ur cake and have it. |
