Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was conspicuously absent from service at his Chapel of Christ the Glorious King Church service in Abeokuta yesterday.

Reasons for his absence could not be ascertained at press time, but our correspondent learnt it may not be unconnected with the defeat of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)in Ogun State in last Saturday’s National Assembly election.

His wife, Bola, was at the service and joined in the praise and worship session where thanks were given for the peaceful conduct of the election. She also read the bible lesson of the day.

Obasanjo who has been a regular worshipper and Sunday school teacher, was absent alongside other top members of the church who are also members of the PDP in the state. The chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP single-handedly donated the chapel for interdenominational worship and as an act of appreciation to God for his grace and mercy upon his life. But some members who were shocked by the absence of Obasanjo at the Sunday service cited the outcome of the Saturday’s polls as a major reason for his absence. “Yes, it is true that if Baba is not around he cannot be in church, but he hardly misses service whenever he is around.
