The President of Nigeria Wushu KungFu
Federation, Adekunle Adewunmi says the
nation’s athletes will feature at the 2022
Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
Adewunmi told www.aclsports.com that
Wushu Kungfu has been upgraded to full
regular/compulsory sport by the Nigerian
Sports council since 2018.

He said, “We will be flying the National
colours in the next World Youth Olympic
games in Dakar. Our participation is high
and Wushu Kungfu has come up in the
limelight of global world sports.
“We did not need to convince the Ministry
of Sports to include Wushu Kungfu on the
medal table at the next National sports
festival in Edo. Wushu Kungfu has since
2018 been upgraded to full regular/
compulsory sport by the Nigerian Sports
council”.

He further said, “As at 2017 when our
board took over, Wushu Kungfu was still
an optional sport in Nigeria. Today to the
glory of God Almighty, Wushu Kungfu has
been elevated to full regular/ compulsory
sport. This can be attributed to the efforts
of board fulfilling all the requirements
needed by the Sports ministry”.
Adewunmi said that his team trained the
full Nigeria team who represented the
country for the first time to the African
Youth sports competition 2019.
“We successfully trained and mobilised a
full Nigeria team for the 1st time to the
African Youth sports competition 2019.

We have conducted National course in
Bayelsa in collaboration with the Bayelsa
State Government 2018 and another one
in Lagos 2019 at the National training
centre. I also single handedly took our
athletes out to Senegal in 2019 for the 7th
edition of the African Wushu Kungfu
competition.

Commenting on the Fun Fair partnership
with the Federation, Adewunmi said, “First
of all, the partnership with Fun Centre in
Lekki Lagos is actually a two in one deal
that involves affordable and accessible
training base for the Federation and
indeed the Lagos state Kungfu association
and Nigerians as a whole. It’s obvious
there are no stadiums and even sports
centres prior that time on the Island of
Lagos.
“Secondly, the partnership deal is actually
a sponsorship from the host Fun Factory.
Thirdly the centre is to cater for camping
and training of members ensuring the
direct supervision of the Federation”.
