Fossil fuel close to the exit door. Nigeria needs to rethink its economic strategies. Over-reliance on oil will not do us good eventually.

Lady, stop being a nitwit. Besides, Volvo's CEO a female?

Because a man broke your heart shouldn't instigate this misandric attitude.

I'm disappointed you're not as smart.

Electric vehicles have a very long way to go. The United States as at 2020 have 286.9 million registered cars, As of 2020, cumulative sales of Electric Cars in the U.S. totaled 1.74 million.
It is estimated that the world has over 1 billion passenger cars on the road, of which we have less than 15million electric cars in the world today. Of cause, there is a daily increase in the sales of electric cars, however, it is so slow that it doesn't affect combustion engine cars. Certainly, it will take a very long time to completely displace combustion engines. Volvo is likely to gain or loss big time.

Publicly accessible electric vehicle SLOW chargers by country as of 2019.
Netherlands = 8%
Norway = 1%
France = 5%
Germany = 3%
United Kingdom = 4%
United States = 11%
Japan = 4%
China = 52%
Others = 12%

Publicly accessible electric vehicle FAST chargers by country as of 2019.
Norway = 2%
France = 5%
Japan = 3%
Germany = 1%
United Kingdom = 2%
United States = 5%
China = 82%
Others = 5%

Certainly Electric Vehicles have a long way to go.

Also, so many people have not accepted Electric Cars even though it has been available since the 1880s. All the major car brands have combustion engine plans for their cars till infinite for now. Dangote made a smart decision.

If you think Dangote is dumb, you're a complete slowpoke. Dangote will not spend billions of dollars on investment without doing comprehensive economic and market research.

I am not saying Nigeria shouldn't join the party, however, before you bash your country, just know that so many deleoped and developing economies have not REALLY accepted EV.

Electric cars is the future Ice combustion engine is old it not even energy efficient it lost 60% of it energy as heats meaning if you buy 100litre fuel 60litre is wasted as heats and smokes in combustion wasting of monies

Electric car is 90% efficient you only lose 10% energy no pollution very reliable low to nearly zero maintenance just tires

Nigerians no get sense only loud and foolish

How many people still use old indicacent bulb or filament bulb of 500w that 20w led bulb can do better

Doesn't really make any difference for third world countries like Nigeria. No free lunch anywhere, even in heaven.

Its electric energy is still remotely from fossil fuel.

Yes, it uses bank of batteries, but how do you charge those batteries? And pls, no illiterate should start telling me the alternator will do that job. The bulk of the electric energy goes into propulsion and very little is left to charge which is grossly insignificant.

To charge the battery, you need electricity and how do you get electricity? Dams? A big joke. Solar? Another big joke. Wind? A bigger joke.

Countries with nuclear power stations are the only beneficiaries because electricity is almost free.

But for countries like Nigeria, no significant difference. Most of our power stations are gas or diesel driven.
You are partially right.

But the efficiency of most powerplant is still far higher than ICE (which is less than 40%). The 'rig to wheel' energy conversion efficiency of EV is higher. So even if the batteries are all powered by electricity generated by gas plants, it is still better.

Secondly, pollution generated by powerplant are concentrated at a place and can be easily treated. So less pollution in the city as most powerplants are not located in the city.

Goahead:
It will end in premium tears for dangote.

That guy has strategic thinkers working for him Bro, so he knows what he's doing. Natural gas, fertilizer and plastics are all derived from Petroleum. African countries would still be heavily dependent on oil and gas for another 30 to 50 years at least. Natural gas alone, could power Nigeria non-stop if we had the infrastructure. Remember, millions of Nigerians depend on liquefied propane gas for cooking at home. His refinery would also ship petrol, diesel etc. to buyers across Africa. Also, we do not know if he would be buying oil or be granted his own OML (oil bloc). Anyhow it plays out, Dangote's refinery would remain in business for at least another 100 years.
