Can You Adopt A Child Without Seeing Him/Her Physically? by semid4lyfe(m): 9:59pm On Apr 11, 2011
Hmmm, I caught a soap opera on tv this evening and there was a scene in which a childless couple went to a motherless baby home/child care centre to adopt a kid.

The adoptees got to the adoption centre, met the proprietress of the place & asked to see the kids. The Madam refused saying "I'm sorry but we don't allow intending adoptees to see the children physically cos it's tantamount to picking a book off a shelf and this kids are human beings, have self esteem and must be treated as such. Besides it may have adverse psychological effect on the other kids cos they'll start feeling unwanted bla bla'' & that what they do is to show pics of the children available for adoption.

At this point, the man cut in and said ''that's okay and not a problem. The pictures will do just fine''. So the proprietress left the room to fetch the picture album of the kids. As she left the room, the woman turned to her husband and said ''But we won't be able to tell if the child has any disability from just the picture nah''

So what do you think. . .should couples who wanna adopt be allowed to physically see the kids in an adoption centre and select the one they want? Will you be willing to choose the child you wanna adopt without seeing him/her physically?

Yes they should be allowed to see the child in which they want to adopt, Yes it would be very hard to pick a child out from so many, but the people who are going to adopt, need to know if the child is disabled so if the child is disabled that they know of the disability, so they know what they are dealing with and if they choose that child that they are able to cope,

there is no need to see the child before adoption.

i have friends who adopted kids from etshiopia. they had all the details about the baby.

people establish connections with agencies and workout the financial details and counselling before they even get to see their new baby.

just to say,its not surprising.

Think of the many couples who work out the details of adoption with a teen mom.
the girl is pregnant and she had already given up on the baby.the foster couple gets ready to welcome a baby before its even born.

yes,it happens alot. some agencies will only let you see the pictures until the d day.
