Let the South also start taxing cattle from the north as well as farm produce from the north. The last few days has shown that North lacks the financial capacity to eat what it produces. It also lacks the market to sell them as well as equipments and expertise to process.

Let the South tax Northern agricultural produce coming in and let the money be diverted into empowering southern farmers, starting with compensating southern farmers for their crops destroyed by herdsmen.
Would be a laudable move but we know that our politicians and govt officials (who are very corrupt), will misappropriate the funds as usual.

They will divert every tax proceeds as they normally do, while the disadvantaged masses will praise and defend them.

That will only lead to increase in food prices. The final burden will be borne by the final consumers (Southerners) as the traders will pass the cost to the consumer.

Finally, after 65 years of Aminu Kano and Ahmadou Bello removing the colonial cattle tax in northern Nigeria.

The current state government in Katsina has come to realise that with dwindling oil revenue and conflicts between the North and the South cattle tax is a good source of revenue and security control.

When you pay your cow tax you will get something...security because we will know who own the cows and their origins, health and safety and finally security.

That is not how our government work. The tax will be swallowed up by some people and that's the end.

Our state Governments don't usually account for how IGRs are spent.

I am not saying that the herdsmen shouldn't be taxed. What I am saying it that the tax will be embezzled as usual and nothing productive will come out of it
