A Medical doctor who is identified as Dr Okorie Ifeanyi Venatus collapsed after a 72 hour shift and also been unpaid for 3 months.

It was reported that Dr Okorie Ifeanyi Venatus is an intern doctor in Univeristy of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, Rivers State. He and other intern doctors have not been paid since Dec 2020, a medical doctor on Twitter claimed.

Despite not being paid, Dr Okorie has been working as the only House Officer in the unit.

On the fateful day, after working for 3 days stretch, he reportedly collapsed with his forehead to the ground.

He was admitted to the hospital where treatment commenced immediately.

God will continue to punish any person that keeps withholding the salaries of doctors and nurses.

Money aside, the hierarchy in the medical system is very oppressive. As a house officer, he would not have dared complain to his senior registrar or the consultant about the work overload for fear of having his internship extended. Meanwhile, many of his seniors will probably only show up for an hour or two every other day.
