Moreso, it's better you go with a seasoned mechanic to go check out a prospective buy.

Before buying a second hand vehicle (especially Nigerian used):
1. Don't listen to anything said by the dealer to convince you. Do your own due diligence.

2. Have a mechanic check it.

3. Run a diagnostic scan on the vehicle yourself and ensure that there are no major issues.

4. Get the VIN Number of the vehicle and run a check online.

5. Take a good look at the mileage. It can tell you a lot of things that the dealer would rather leave unsaid.

6. Don't ignore warning ⚠️ lights on the dashboard.

7. Before you conclude negotiations, check online platforms (like , etc.) to have an idea of the price range of the vehicle you intend to purchase.

8. For registered vehicles: If you know someone in VIO or FRSC, get them to help you run an online check on the vehicle registration for your peace of mind.

If the dealer doesn't want you to check these things, or is putting you under pressure to buy, RUN!

You're welcome!

dem go come use Iphone snap phone. You go think say na better car, when you go for inspection na then you go see jalopy
Re: Lies From Car Dealers! BUYERS BEWARE by Chimobii(m): 2:45pm On Feb 08
I always tell my clients to come for inspection when they start asking too many questions, because thats the only way they can be sure and clear and their doubts

When buying Nigerian make sure to go with a trusted mechanic and don't trust anything about the car that you've not checked yourself.

And please for all car purchases both tokunbo and Nigerian used, do all checks on the documentation and registration (esp Nigerian used), so you won't buy stolen cars, someone will steal car in Port Harcourt and come to lagos and sell it.
If the car has no documents or history especially if the VIN is fake, run!!!!!!! Else police will use to make money.

it's quite unfortunate that unemployment has turned many people to overnight car dealer dishing out lies to members of public

Many of such lies includes;

✓ This car has low mileage but when you eventually see the car in real life, it will have mileage of over 250k

✓ Claim theres nothing to be fixed on the car but when you see the car & test drive it then you will realize there's lots of work to do on the vehicle

✓ The biggest of these lies is that vehicle was registered less than 6months or 3months but when you check the number plate, it shows car registered over 3years

✓ Another lies is that owner doesn't drive it much because he's out of town, owner has travelled out, owner is based abroad etc

please stop dishing out lies to brand your cars as super neat, most of the time you are wasting customers time & destroying your reputation at the same time

MY ADVICE TO BUYERS
When you are buying Tokunbo or naija used cars, ensure that you check the vehicle thoroughly and dont rely on word of mouth from dealer/marketer

If you are buying a Nigerian used car, ensure that you bargain very well & never listen to any dealer claiming that owner hardly uses the vehicle or owner is based abroad, vehicle was used by female banker etc, its all lies to cheat you and sell the car to you at expensive price

How do you do it?

Easy.

Ask the seller for the 17 digit/character VIN. Or preferably, obtain the VIN yourself from the vehicle. The common places to find the VIN are shown below.

Visit www.carfax.com or www.autocheck.com, enter the VIN and pay for the reports.

Alternatively, if you would prefer a much easier and direct interaction (and far cheaper fees), send us the VIN, preferably a picture of the VIN tag from the vehicle. We are available on WhatsApp and everywhere else.

At your service.
