Nigerians/Nairalanders be wise. . .Do you think Awo would have supported the political ambitions of a gun trotting undemocratic and despotic illiterate like Ayatollah Bin Buhari, a man whose only achievement is truncating the same democracy that he fought valiantly to enshrine? undecided tongue

Awo himself prophesied that an ethnic minority will one day become President of Nigeria and I see Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan as the fulfillment of that prophecy.

More groups/parties endorse Pres. Jonathan

The Alliance for Democracy [AD] has endorsed the candidature of the President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2011 presidential election.

During a meeting with Afenifere leaders in the north, the national chairman of AD, Senator Mojisola Akinfenwa said the party has seen the true qualities of a good leader in President Jonathan.

Senator Akinfenwa urged Yoruba people to vote massively for President Jonathan because it's a fulfillment of the prophecies of late premier of western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Chief Awolowo is quoted as having told a group of supporters in Bonny River state during a campaign in 1983, that an ethnic minority President would soon emerge Nigerias President.

Meanwhile, President Jonathans run for the 2011 presidency took another major leap with Igbo leaders from across the 19 northern states endorsing his candidature for Saturdays presidential election.

At a courtesy call on the President in State House the delegation of over forty leaders of Igbo Community Associations in the 19 northern states commended President Jonathan for stabilizing the nation at a critical juncture of its history, noting that his administrative dexterity and egalitarian posture have endeared him to the hearts of not only the Igbo people but all Nigerians nationwide.

Mr. Oge Ogechukwu of the FCT chapter who spoke on behalf of others said President Jonathans detribalized stance has opened a vista of equal opportunities for all Nigerians, while assuring that Igbos in the northern states and nationwide will vote en masse for the President come Saturday.

While congratulating the President in advance, Mr. Ogechukwu said they will go to the hinterland to mobilise their people that Mr. President must be made to stay in Aso Rock.

The group urged the President to take more stringent measures to ensure security of lives and property of all Nigerians.

President Jonathan thanked the delegation for endorsing him and said his administration in a fresh four year mandate will engender a nation where all Nigerians will pursue their aspirations without fear of molestation or discrimination.

The President promised to pursue the unity and development of the country at all times, noting that "development and poverty do not speak ethnic languages. He also urged all Nigerians to maintain the peace and orderliness that prevailed at last Saturday"s parliamentary elections, in electing the leader of their choice during this Saturday's presidential poll.

Lets move our county forward and not backwards on Saturday.

Na wa oo! Just to force Yorubas to vote for GEJ?? LOL. Anyway, continue sha . . . . . . As I said earlier, most people are simply voting for this GEJ based on Ethnic and regional affiliations not on what he can do.

@POST

This is one of the most ill-informed threads about Awolowo I have ever read. It ranked up there with loads of fallacies about building of Lagos by Awolowo. The facts about the dates and what Awolowo represented to the region were also colossally wrong.

He's actually trying to spit at the suggestion too.

People can be desperately dumb when trying to achieve personal selfish ends. However, pls note that we adore but do not worship Awo in the Southwest (On second thot, that sounds like a catholic argument, lol). as such we will vote our own chosen candidates irrespective of whatever message from the noble dead carried by fake mediums like this.

How dare you mention Awolowo and try to equate the most clueless man in Nigeria (GEJ) into it.

At one of his final campaign rallies in 1983,the late sage,Pa Obafemi Awolowo,predicted thus"an Ijaw man will be president of Nigeria before long".
GEJ's presidency is thus the fulfillment of that prophecy.QED

At least we aint talking about prophecies from just any rabble rousing fake pastor here.

Angered by this prophecy,amongst other wicked sectional reasons,Buhari no sooner had he stolen power at gunpoint on Dec 31 1983, than he prroceeded to arrest and humiliate Obafemi Awolowo by invading his Apapa residence with soldiers,seized his passport and proceeded to jail UPN governors(who by the way were the best performing governors of the time)under the pretext of fighting corruption,while offensively corrupt northern politicians where scarcely touched.So many of the jailed UPN governors were to take ill tragically that they all but died in Buhari's prisons,a good case in point here is the very refined,highly performing and highly loved Prof Ambrose Alli,the former UPN governor of the then Bendel state.The list goes on and on

Buhari is evil,he is anti-democratic

@OP

Just ignore the rants of the pro-weeping Buhari goons on this thread.

I mean it aint no rocket science,Pa Awolowo predicted that someday,an Ijawman would be president of Nigeria(refer to my post above),since that time in '83,GEJ is the first Ijaw man to be president of Nigeria,so anyone who thinks that is not a fulfilment of Awo's prophecy must be so incredibly dubious or daft.

Please let's discourse/argue more with facts rather than led our emotions derail us into the lane of intellectual abyss

I beg the riffraff to stop soiling Awolowo’s name as a result of emotional intoxication. Any drooling fool could resourcefully prophesize that any person from one of the numerous ethnic groups in Nigeria would one day become president as long as Nigeria remains united.

That is the level to which deceipt and falsehood has degerated in Nigeria. One hopeless, visionless, drunken illitrate coming here to equate GEJ to Awolowo? This is the height of petty politics started by OBJ.

Please stop this immediately. GEJ can call himself an IGBO man and  the morally bankrupt IGBO people can accept that deceipt but YORUBAs will not allow any dumb head to drag the name of Awolowo in today's smelling waters of PDP politics.

And that Ijaw man shall be called Azikiwe by default.
He will rise to become a governor by default when his own boss was caught stealing the money both should be looking after and accounting for their people.
The Awo prophesy on Ijaw finally was fulfilled when by default again, when god struck another boss with a terrible illness and kill him to make way for prophesy to be fulfilled.

I can't wait for this month to be over, so that we can go back to our more comfortable pass time moaning about electricity, bad road, boreholes, looting, kidnapping, armed robbery, million of dollar wedding paid from the public purse. I hate election time, it a real distraction over more important issues.

Okay,if you're on drugs and need 'em to make a post,sorry everybody is not like you.What is wrong with your reasoning faculty,years ago someone predicted something would happen,now the thing has happened,now you're saying the prediction was not fulfilled.

No no no tell me,what's your problem with the whole issue,the fact that the prediction actually came to pass,or the manner in which it was fulfilled?
