10 Frequent Statements and Questions About the Super Tucanos due to Arrive Mid-July 2021:

1. "This is a left over by the US Air Force"

Absolutely NO. In fact, the US AF is currently evaluating this aircraft in order to obtain it for its counter insurgency operations.

2. "This aircraft is very old (or from WWII era) & no longer used because it is turbo-propeller".

The original EMB 314 was designed in 2003, so no it is not an "old" aircraft. The aircraft is used by major armies across the world for the specific mission it was made for. Some are probably surprised to see it has an advanced cockpit

3. "An AA gun or RPG can bring it down"

No, unless it is flying within range of the AA gun. Check the info about altitudes of the jet. In reality, it is most likely that a non-radar AA gun (commonly operated by insurgents) would be taken out before the operator can even see or hear the aircraft.

4. "Instead of advancing we are going back in time. Who uses propeller aircraft anymore?"

Wrong. Air forces with some of the most advanced jets over there are turning to turbo-propeller aircraft for their counter-insurgency and close air support operations. The market is growing with solution such as the Super Tucano, Cessna AC-208B, Air Tractor AT-802, and AT-6 Beechcraft.

5. "The Tucanos are slow aircraft."

The aircraft is fast and agile. It can reach a maximum speed of 590 km/h. In fact, it has the speed for the mission it is intended for. Sending an aircraft that is expensive like the F-16 to operate in counter-insurgency can be very costly. Consuming the air frame life, expensive spare parts, and expensive jet fuel, have led armies, including the US, to consider aircraft such as the A-29.

6. "We could have acquired second hand older generation jets"

The technology advancement in the A-29 Tucanos surpasses any old jet capability.

7. We should have acquired F-16/SU35"

America only sell such jets to dedicated allies. For now, that's a far reach. Beyond, the Tucanos would remain the aircraft preferred for the mission it is made for.

8. "Its taking too long to receive them".

Procuring aircraft is not shopping a car. Moreover, these aircraft are made to order, and those who placed their orders first, have the priority.

9. "Propeller aircraft are in general an old technology"

Many modern military (and civil) aircraft still use propellers especially where speed isn't the main concern. Whether a military transport, UAV, or light-attack, turbo/propeller are still providing the power & safety needed for these aircraft to conduct their designed missions. Jet is not equal to modern, like turbo-propeller is not equal to old.

10. "Apart from Nigeria, who is even buying or using the Tucano Jet."

Brazil,
Colombia,
Afghanistan, Lebanon, Philippines, Angola, Ghana, Mali,Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Chile and Ukraine
Ecuadorian Air Force.

And come to think of it that all insurgencies are generated by them of the peaceful religion.
Putting the world to unnecessary risks and troubles in the name of an unknown god.

Waiting to see the post updated/modified though… with US, UK, Russia, Israel, Germany, France and Canada mentioned to be using this same high profile jet….

If the current fighter aircrafts the Nigerian Army has have not been used against the so-called bandits, what's the guarantee that these ones are bought to be used against them? All lovers of freedom should beware of this order.

Does Nigeria have functioning fight aircrafts?

Most of our fighters are old and no longer use in other countries. Nigerian airforce are using old refurbished fighter jets that are even enough and that's the reason we rely on ground forces to fight bokoharam. What that means is deploying the troops to the frontline till vital equipments arrive. That's military profession for you. By the time the fighter jets and the super tucano arrive you will see changes in the fight against bokoharam.

An alleged leaked telephone conversation between the CIA's former director George Tenet and former late Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh released on Tuesday by the Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah channel purportedly contains audio of Tenet requesting Saleh release an Al-Qaeda member.

In the conversation, Tenet asks for the release of "someone important to me personally, within two days" who was arrested in connection to Al-Qaeda's role in the attack against a US naval destroyer, the USS Cole in 2000. However, when asked by Saleh for a name, Tenet is said to have responded that it was too risky to reveal names over the phone, adding that they both knew who this individual was.

What about your Dassault Dornier alpha jets? What about your Chengdu F17 jets? Continue your tales but we know the drill.

Those fighter jets you mentioned are obsolete and complete embarrassment to Nigeria. Alpha jet is no longer in use and the spare parts not available. Nigerian Airforce contract University of Maiduguri and INNOSON to fabricate the spare parts before some of them could fly. No wonder why war against boko haram takes so long. Our airforce is a complete mess. Obasanjo bought chengdu but it was just 3 units can you image?
