Monarch tasks operatives on security

Gunmen, yesterday, attacked Mgbakwu Police Outpost in Awka North Local Council, Anambra State, forcing people in the area to scamper for safety.

A witness said, on condition of anonymity, that unspecified number of hoodlums with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded the police station in the early hours of yesterday, but was mum on casualties.

He said the timely response of security operatives saved the situation. Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, said some hoodlums attempted to burn down Mgbakwu Police Outpost, in the morning of March 21, 2021, but were successfully repelled by the police personnel on duty.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, warned criminals not to further test the resolve and ability of the police and other security agencies in the state to apprehend and bring them to book. He said the command was not deterred by the actions of some unscrupulous individuals and groups in the state hell-bent on unleashing violence in the state.

THE Obi of Onitsha, Anambra State, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, has told security operatives in the state to wake up and tackle insecurity.

The monarch gave the charge yesterday at Ime-Obi Palace, Onitsha, after receiving six motorcycles, communication gadgets and other equipment donated by R&S Lotto Company to enhance Onitsha Ado Community Vigilante Service.

The Chairman, Onitsha North Local Council, Agha Mba, also donated a Siena Bus to the security outfit. Achebe, who lamented the spate of criminal activities in the commercial city and environs, insisted that “security agencies have much responsibility” to protect life and property of the citizenry.

He commended R&S Lotto for its contribution in the area of security in Anambra, and called on other corporate bodies operating in the town to borrow a leaf to make Onitsha safe for businesses to thrive, just as he enjoined Onitsha indigenes in the Diaspora to contribute towards the sustenance of the outfit.

Earlier in his speech, the Managing Director of R&S Lotto, Chief Francis Chidiac, represented by manager of the company, Raphael Emejulu, described the company’s donation to the security outfit as part of its numerous Corporate Social Responsibility projects.

“It is part of our CSR to make the town safe for all. We will always assist to provide security for residents of Onitsha,” he said.

Mba, who doubles as the President-General, Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU), Youth Wing, lauded the efforts of the state government, the monarch and R&S Lotto in safeguarding life and property.

In an interview, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Youth Development, Mr. Eloka Egbunike, urged indigenes of the town to work towards security in Onitsha by donating security equipment to the security outfit.
