The Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Sir,

I am a concerned Citizen of Nigeria, currently resident in the Country. In the recent past week, the attention of Nigerians has been drawn to a viral of video of a session of the House in which the Deputy speaker, Idris Wase presided over due to your absence.

Hon. Mike Terseer Gbila

In the said viral video, the Deputy Speaker was visibly seen to suppress and stifle the attempts of Hon. Mark Gbillah in presenting a petition by his constituents under the auspices of Mutual Union of Tiv in America (MUTA). The said petition by MUTA is to register their grievances on the forceful and unlawful takeover of the Tiv ancestral land by herdsmen which has sentenced the indigenes to seek indefinite refuge at IDP camps.

The horrifying excuses adduced by Idris Wase were that the members of MUTA were not resident in Nigeria and so they lack the capacity to know and contribute to what is happening in Nigeria. Secondly, Idris Wase raised the issue of whether the association is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

To say the least, the excuses adduced by the Deputy Speaker depicts a highlevel of ignorance which we consider rather preposterous and incongruent with his position.

Hon. Armed Idris Ease.

The freedom of Expression and Association as provided under Chapter 4 of the CFRN, 1999 as amended, and Articles 7, 9 and 10 of the African Charter on Human and People's Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act are sacrosanct and inalienable rights of every citizen of Nigeria regardless of wherever such a citizen maybe resident. On issue two, there is no gain saying that registration with CAC can never be an ouster to any person(s), being a citizen of Nigeria from initiating a petition to the legislative chambers.

I dare to say that the position held by the Deputy speaker defiles common sense and is unknown to any written law in Nigeria.

The indignifying conditions by which internally displaced persons are forced to live under at IDP camps has drawn a lot of concern and sympathy from even foreign governments and organisations, it therefore beats our imagination why the Deputy speaker of this nation will treat such a such a sensitive petition with such levity and indignation.
We are further appalled by the non challant attitude of other members of the House while this saga was going on. One wonders if it was caused by ignorance or lack of interest in the subject, either ways their attitude speaks volumes about the state of leadership in our dear country.

In conclusion, as Hon. Mark Gbillah is set to re present the petition on the floor of the House, we urge the Speaker, the Senate President and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to hearken into the plight of the petitioners and take necessary steps to reclaim the ancestral lands of the Tiv people from the marauders.

Furthermore, we cannot ascertain with mathematical precision the extent of ridicule to which the actions of the Deputy speaker has exposed Nigeria to in the eyes of the world. As I earlier mentioned his actions were despicable and preposterous. However as a remedial attempt, we call for the immediate probe into the educational background of the Deputy Speaker with the aim of justifying the educational certificates he claims to have acquired.

Secondly, we demand an apology from the Deputy Speaker to be aired on all National Newspapers and TV stations, in the interest of good faith and justice.

Ukan P Kurugh

The fool is now claiming the video was doctored.

TVC doctored a video?

They think we are all dumb like their online rodents.
